Tim's Tempest tipper

Recommended Posts

Another build from me.  This time a Heller Tempest

That cost me 1.50 at IPMS Avon show last year.  Such value!

Parts.  No surprises here, I've built this kit twice by Airfix, and once by Smer.

and after some interior decoration.

Planning to try white-tak mask airbrushing on this, my Typhoons and Whirlwind.

And this build is called a tipper because it's going to do this

TempestPainting_zpsonjeubel.jpg

Already prototyped with my first  Airfix Tempest.

and brought to life with a background and flames.

Now for 501 Squadron's SD*R markings.

I found a LOT of relevant detail in this article, in a magazine at Jet Age.

Here is my previous form with this mould model.

First that original Airfix kit - shown in the previous post.

Next the Smer kit.  Hadn't realised this was the same when I built it.

Another copy of Airfix.

For comparison and Academy model - with Esci decals

Also a Matchbox Tempest, but mine has the radial engine - so I'll keep it under wraps.

I have a vintage version of this kit that I would love to start.

Watching this thread for inspiration; it's working :)

Looks like the parts go together well?

Good and fast progress :thumbsup2:

Best regards

Plans enlarged to full size.

The cut out and stuck onto the model with my PowerTak

My haste at the copier resulted in missing the other side.

So resorting to my tried tested masking technique.

Now waiting in the shed for airbrushing tomorrow morning.

Confirming exactly that.  I'll show the detail of exactly how during this GB.

So here we go.

This is typically my source of clear plastic, a coleslaw pot lid.

1_Materials.jpg

I prefer plastic labels, they come off more cleanly.

And this is my circular cutter, this one from The Works,

2_Tools.jpg

Set to the radius of the prop, cutter includes a scalpel blade.

Not very visible, but two disks from that coleslaw lid.

3_Parts.jpg

Then a cocktail stick to centre things, and superglue to secure it all.

4_Assembly.jpg

Next just fit the spinner with more superglue.

Sadly Photobucket has decided to cease 3rd party hosting, rendering this and most of my other GBs pretty useless.

I'll find a new host for gallery photos on completion,

but I'm unlikely to migrate all the build photos.

Exhaust stains added last night.

Hi Tim,

thanks for the info on the spinning prop, very useful even without Photobuckets images.

I've restored those photos.

I had a few other photos like that, of my less expensive ways of doing this modelling malarkey.

Tim's canopy frames amongst.

And the Tempest is on a stand, about to tip a V1 - so another photo to come.

Similarly, the Typhoons are about to launch rockets - so more to come.
