Mike Esposito
Was just going over this kit...vac fuselage and resin control surfaces and wings metal props. Instructions are sparse. No diagrams at all. Two parts I have no idea what they are and no nose gear doors or well. Maybe this is why I never finished the Viscount kit 5 years ago. I did not remember the lack of instruction diagrams in the past...or lack of nose wheel wells Is this common with all kits in the skyliner series? Jessica
The "instruction" sheet is the set of drawings which are conveniently also the painting and decal placement diagrams. Which are the unidentifiable parts? Can you possibly post a picture? Not having gear wells is a common feature of Welsh kits. You're supposed to use the scrap plastic from the sheet to make one. The doors, of course, you cut out from the fuselage mouldings.
Kiwidave4
For what it is worth there is no 'well' for the nose gear on an F27. The gear hangs off the front bulkhead, the entire nose cone is cavernous falsework. So as long as you have a bulkhead at the rear of the nose leg it will be correct.
Mike Esposito
Hi Jessica. No assembly drawings. Just a pic with some written instructions.
Jessica
That's a typical Welsh Models instruction sheet. Modellers who go for Welsh kits are assumed to know what they're doing
Mike Esposito
Yes...but not to have any dimensions for making the well or panel lines for making the gear doors..quite disappointing.
Jessica
Strange; usually there are panel lines for the gear doors. Can you landmark from the drawings and draw them onto the model that way? And what about those two mystery parts? Any luck figuring them out?
Mike Esposito
The parts look to be for the lower wing surfaces They are the two parts between the main gear tires and the main gear legs. These are all the instructions Edited May 22, 2017 by Mike Esposito
Jessica
That's a flap hinge fairing. Look for it midway between the engine and the outboard fairing: Fokker in their wisdom chose to make the outboard flap fairing look like a Boeing fairing, and the inboard look like a Douglas product. Also note the position of the nose gear doors. This photo may help you to mark where to cut your model.
Mike Esposito
Thanks Jessica. That already is a flap fairing...
Jessica
I'll bet they're a holdover from the old kit with the vac wings, or perhaps spares for the time you'll inevitably knock one off...
Mike Esposito
Thanks! Now got to figure where the nose gear doors go...
Jessica
Drop a straight line from the beginning of the windscreen, then draw another one a mm or 2 in front of it where the nose cone begins. That'll be your aft bulkhead for your nose gear well. The forward end of the opening looks as if it's 2 or 3 mm back from the nose. You should be able to take the nose gear door dimensions right off the drawings. They're printed at 1/144 scale for you.
