Dave_R
Hi All, I've plucked this one from the stash:- It's a big one - it's as long as a Lancaster with only a bit shorter wing span. I've got quite a few other builds on the go - but they're going along nicely, so I don't think this will be my only entry for this group build. Col.
This certainly looks a comprehensive kit and has been well received from what I've read so hopefully you'll enjoy it

dogsbody
As I just purchased one of these a week ago, I shall be following this build. Chris
Dave_R
Hi All, I've got the front fuselage and cockpit together. Not massively detailed - but good enough. Plus masking tape seat belts and the map from the decal sheet. Dave.
Col.
There's a good leap forward to start off with Dave

jean
My first look at the innards of a new tool Whitley, since I built the ancient Frog one many moons ago. I like the look of it... Have fun! JR
Dave_R
Hi All, Now I've got the Jaguar for the NATO/Warpac GB out of the way I've made progress with the Whitley. There's quite a few parts that make up the fuselage - eight (including bomb bay doors) couldn't it have been just two? Hopefully It'll look OK, but you can see how much filler was needed. Still if turns out OK then not to worry, but I do wish manufacturers would try to simplify construction as much as possible. Dave.
Col.
This one has taken a big leap forward Pity about the amount of filler required but you seem to have lept that hurdle without any trouble.
Old Man
That's quite a bit of progress, Sir! Coming together nicely.
Dave_R
Hi All, Here it is all masked up using Montex pre-cut vinyl masks. ... a close-up of the Montex masks The masks cost £3.50 and saved hours of time - worth every penny in my opinion. So, onto the next step - priming. Dave.
Dave_R
Hi All, A primed suspect. I could have made life easy and gone for the all over black option - but no, next job is to get out the airbrush and put on some Dark Earth and Dark Green. Dave. Dave_R
Hi All, So, here it is masked-up a bit more. There are a few tricky bits here, the curve around the nacelles and the line between the wings and the fuselage. I scanned the Airfix plans and scaled them up to 1/72nd, printed them out, cut out the relevant bits and used them as a template for the masking tape. Easy said, but it took me about ten attempts to get right. .... and onto the first coat of paint. I'm trying some new airbrushing techniques (I definitely class myself as a novice with the airbrush). I didn't want a factory fresh finish (which is the way my paintwork has tended to turn out), so it's a change of approach for me - hence the black primer. I tried building up the Humbrol 29 Dark Earth progressively using a tight random spray pattern (I've previously just misted a coat of paint over the whole thing), deliberately leaving some of the black primer showing through. Then little bit of Humbrol 29 + Humbrol 110 to show some lighter areas. I think I'll have to wait to see how it looks with the Dark Green on, before I decide if it's worked or not - but it will need some more work on the Dark Earth areas. Dave_R
Hi All, Another hour with the paint puffer... ... and it's bit greener. It's not quite as bad as looks in the photos. I'm pretty confident a couple of layers of Micro Gloss/Flat will sort most of overly light green areas. For some reason toward the end of the session the paint finish started to change. I did the wings first and the change is apparent by the time I got onto the tail. There's a bit more overspray than I'd like, so at least one more go with each colour and then we'll see how it looks. I could have picked an easier subject to experiment on, but hey-ho. Dave.
Dave_R
Hi All I've done a bit more airbrush work and removed the masking. It's a bit better, but I'm still hoping that a couple of coats of varnish will get it closer to how I want it to look. Next I'll airbrush some different black shades on the underside. Dave_R
Hi All It's now had a couple of coats of Humbrol Clear and I've added the undercarriage. I still need to paint the framework on the turrets and then on with the decals. Dave.
Dave_R
Hi All I haven't forgotten this one and I've now got the decals on. Just the turrets, aerials, matt coat and weathering to to finish it off now. Dave.

Dave_R
Hi All, On to the last lap. A few more bits to do - but there's nothing like a deadline to motivate me. Dave.
