Two Airfix 08002 Lancasters

Recommended Posts

I built these two aircraft very recently on another forum when they held a 'Lancaster GB 2017.' 75th anniversary of their operational debut.

The two aircraft tie in with my on-going RAF Grimsby diorama and are representative aircraft of October/November 1943.

I was very fortunate to have met with both pilots and had discussions with them and shared the photos of their aircraft. Thank you Johnny and Jim.

First up is ED583 with the motif 'Wings for Victory' taken from the campaign badge of the same name . . . Flown by Lawrence 'Johnny ' Stow

The actual aircraft came down during an airtest over a village quiet close to the airfield in October 1943

The 2nd aircraft depicts that aircraft flown by Jim Berry, LM319, and despite being delivered in May 1943 it carried a shallow nose blister.

Jim discussed the colour of 'Queenie', the girlie motif, and so is a fairly accurate replication of her. The square patch is a flak damage repair.

The actual aircraft transferred in December '43 to a newly formed squadron, 550 at North Killingholme, and eventually was lost in May 1944.

Many thanks for looking in

Two lovely lancs, how about a picture of them both together waiting for the next raid on the Rhur?

Thanks for the prompt Phil

I will give it a go, with bomb trolleys and others bits . . .

There's only one thing better than a lovely model of a Lancaster and that's two!

Two absolutely stunning models and some beautiful photography.

Thanks for sharing them.
