What do you have in mind ? cheers Pat
bootneck
I was just wondering how many aircraft kits are being built in this GB and how many ships. I hope there will be quite a few carriers or else this could be just another aircraft GB. Personally, I would like to scratchbuild an ABC (Albion, Bulwark or Centaur) in 1:350 scale , I've already done their other sister, Hermes. cheers Mike
Shar2
I'll be building a carrier Mike, so they'll be at least 2. Probably something Japanese
bootneck
Does that mean all your non-Japanese carriers will be going spare Dave? Help the aged at Christmas. Mike
Romeo Alpha Yankee
I am thinking about a carrier as well Mike. Either Nimitz, Intrepid or Essex (Wasp class LHD)
bootneck
Good news Ray, we ship modellers need to defend our corner on this GB! Mike
vppelt68
Dear sirs, re the discussion of those partial-deck carriers being not eligible: I just don't get the idea of you getting a carrier theme GB and then you want to restrict it so much. "Things that fly on things that float" - does that definition rule out the semideckers??? Not imo. Please re-consider! Best regards, V-P
trickyrich
Yeap, unfortunately they're not included! I did think about this a lot before I posted the original thread. In it's most purest form and one most people can easily recognise is a ship that has a flight deck that runs from one end to the other, uninterrupted, from which aircraft (and choppers) operate off. Of course there are lots of other types of ships that choppers and aircraft can operate off, even some subs! If you include these then someone will say what about small ships that choppers operate and suddenly the GB almost becomes anything that floats or flies GB, which is not what I intended fro the start. For this GB and I don't think there has been any other the same I just wanted to stick to the simple type of aircraft carrier we all know and the aircraft that operate from them. I added the assault carriers because by virtue they have a through deck as well, plus it'd add a wee bit of extra variety as well. As the GB stands now the range of subject matter eligible is huge, both aviation and naval wise so there's bound to be something for everyone. I know that the vast majority of builds will be aircraft, but it's a nice change to include another subject matter into the build and the navy members don't often get a chance to enjoy a GB. Hopefully we'll see more than a few carriers in the build. For future GB I agree it would be nice to have one with all the other specialist vessels that aircraft/choppers can and do operate, It just needs a framework to be created for a GB.

JOCKNEY
Another find in the stash same as below Plus I have the Airmodel conversion for the Gannet, nice change to build a Frog and an Airmodel kit at the same time. And before you ask Rich, I haven't found anything resin that fits the bill.........yet ! cheers Pat 1
Jb65rams
Thought I had registered my interest in this one, but seem on reading back the thread I hadn't. So here goes, I'm in with Trumpeter's 1/700 CV-3 USS Saratoga.

I won't update the list as there really isn't any need. great to see an aircraft being built, hopefully we'll have lots built for this GB. What would really be cool is if some members got together and someone build the carrier and the others the aircraft that actually served on it! Grey Beema
I quite fancy doing one of the British Pacific Fleet, Fleet carriers and one of its fighter compliment (ties in with my FAA Aces collection) but as an aviation modeller trying out ship modelling for the first time, I can't find a reasonable priced injection moulded British WWII carrier kit. Any ideas? Preferred carriers are Indefatigable and Implacable with Seafire III's (got the Seafire covered it will be another 1/48 SH Seafire III).

SleeperService
I have a question before I commit my selection. US Navy Gloss Midnight Blue scheme. What colour would the airframe stencils be please, that is the small instruction panel type stuff on the outside?
beefy66
If I only have a short time to build for this GB better make it this small model I will be doing it has a few wingy things on it beefy

I feared as much once I found no sign of white 1/48 stencilling Need to have a rethink. If it's OK I'll finish the Gannet COD.4 I started HERE but gave up on at the start of the year. trickyrich
that will be fine, it does look a bit of a challenge though! Looking at your build brings back horrible memories of my Grand Phoenix Fury!!! I have seen some cool white stencilling done in 1/32nd (& 1/48th) using stamps made from thin strips of wood with tiny notches cut or grooves cut into it or toothpicks. Its mentioned in the Diego Quijano book Painting (#3) from the Encyclopaedia of Aircraft Modelling Techniques series. It takes time to do it but looks really good!
Bangor Lad
Don’t know how I missed this thread but please count me in for a flat top! Not yet sure which will be emerging from my stash but it might be nice to compliment a WWII aircraft RN or USN I have a number of options. Cheers
trickyrich
you have plenty of time, nice to see a Flat Top in the GB, wonder if anyone will build an aircraft based off it?
FortyEighter
Hoping to come on board this build with a 1/48 Hasegawa Phantom FG Mk1 in Ark Royal livery. No particular boxing as the parts were from a bulk buy of 3 kits in one plain box off E*** a couple of years ago. Extras would include Wolfpack flaps down set, Hobby Decals rub-down stencils and livery decals plus Montex masks and Master pitots. The only problem could be the number of overlapping group builds that I'd like to take part in!! (10th Anniversary, 737, HS, RAF 100, Airfix). Thanks for ( inadvertently) letting me know! Mike
Beard
I'm sure I've read somewhere that Spitfires were used on Aircraft Carriers. If this is the case, count me in.
Enzo the Magnificent
Floaty things are definitely out of my comfort zone. Maybe I should give one a go. I'm looking at the Academy 1/700 USS Enterprise.
