I had a beer delivery to Barrow Hill restoration

centre today, although I didn't know that until I

got there. (There's a beer festival on soon).

I had a quick wander around and found it quite

surreal, almost like being shrunk to HO scale and

wandering around someone's train set, with some

of Hornby's finest partially dismantled. There were

also some lovely ones 'newly unboxed' though.

There's some building work going on of (I think) a

visitors centre so it will be worth a visit when done.

Oh, it's somewhere near Chesterfield.

The guys said it was part lottery funded,

and someone else told me Pete Waterman

has an interest & rolling stock in the site.

I dropped off half a van full of Fullers

beers and Cornish Orchard cider BTW.

Barrow Hill is well known as a preservation site and holds a couple of galas a year. It has recently received funding for a new visitor centre as Pete saw. I have not been for years, but had some interesting stuff. It apparently is the only working railway roundhouse left in the country still in use for it's original purpose without Bing rebuilt etc, like the NRM

There were some steam engines in the roundhouse

which is probably what made me feel so small.

A dark red engine with the number 1000 on the tender.

An 0-6-0 which I think was called a jinty?

A small 0-4-0 and another 0-6-0 or 2-6-0 with tender.
