J-35J Draken ; 1/72 Hasegawa

Recommended Posts

Hi folks , I present the 72nd scale draken kit finished out of box as a Swedish machine . It goes together without any problem and while the kit is on the cheaper side , a downside is it doesn't includes any weapons ; the missiles are from a hasegawa weapon set .

Beautiful work, Mate!

Love the panel line accents and the shading.

Any hints/tips about how you do it?

Thanks :)  . I will jot down the steps I took to paint/weather the model-
1. Laid down the base colours - I freehanded the upper surface camo .
2. I mixed lighter shades of the upper camo and then sprayed a thin mix inside the panels - the contrast is subtle .
3. Panel line wash using dark sepia oil .
4. I post shades some panels with a thin mix of hull red - nato black .

I kept the weathering light because of the yellow swordfish as a heavily weathered airplane will look odd with such bright decals . If I were to paint a model without those particular fish on wings , I will increase the contrast between the base paint and the lighter shade of the base paint post shaded inside the panel .
