Shuttleworth Season Premiere Air Show May 2017 (more added)

Recommended Posts

Hi

The first show of the season turned out to be a very popular event, with fine if somewhat chilly and breezy weather.

Old Warden remains a wonderful venue with displays that are within view without a super zoom!

I have selected a few of my favourite images to post here after quick editing.

I hope you enjoy them.

Some cracking images there as usual AD and you always manage to make the most of Shuttleworth. The head on shot of the Catalina is a beauty.

I'm not as up to speed on my Spitfires as I should be but I don't remember having seen the clipped wing TE311 before unless it was in a different guise.

Thanks for the kind words, Latinbear.

I took up a different position to normal as due to the wind direction, aircraft were using Runway 03 instead of the more usual Runway 21. This provided a slightly different background to my normal taxy, take off and landing shots.

In relation to the Spitfire, it is the BBMF Spitfire LF XVIe which I understand is temporarily flying in matt black undercoat before being resprayed in 302 (Polish) Squadron markings. I must confess that I rather like the matt black look!

Lovely pics!  Would have loved to have been there myself but other things at home prevented me from going.  Nice to see the Spit XVI and that its going to represent a Polish unit  I adore the Yellow Puss Moth!!!!

Thanks for the compliment, Paul. It was a shame that you couldn't make it, as it was a wonderful event.

I try to get to as many shows at Old Warden as I can, because it remains one of the most friendly and relaxed venues where the flying displays are much closer than at certain larger events.

Wonderful set of shots there - thanks so much for showing them. Makes me long to revisit as I did back in 2014 - must start saving for the 20000km trip! Looks like great weather for photography, and your shots are crystal clear.

The last two of the Hurricanes are fantastic! Nothing wrong with that addiction.

Thanks Latinbear. My doctor also said there was nothing to worry about!

These are brilliant. I'd like to go to this show but it's too far for me to drive.

Thanks for the compliment. It is a real shame that Old Warden is too far for you to drive, because it is very special place.

Fine shots and a venue I still have not managed to get to, your pics have convinced me I must try harder.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks. I'm pleased you like them. Maybe try the Fly Navy show on June 4th, which promises to be a fantastic display.

Very nice, mate. Did you crank up the colour saturation?

Martin

Hi Martin. Thanks for the kind words. I did adjust the saturation on some of the images, and on reflection, it might have been a mistake. (Thinking particularly of the Hurricane R4118 take off shot where the red of the fin flash is too bright.)

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really pleased that you enjoyed looking at them and that they brought back memories of lovely Old Warden! I hope you're able to return soon.

I agree, mate. Don't get me wrong, I love the shots but, as you've also seem, the colour saturation is a light heavy.
