Plasto's Foreign Emil *Finished*

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'll use Tamiya's 1/48 Bf-109 E kit to build an Emil in foreign service.

I haven't built a Tamiya Emil before and coming off of the back of a build of Airfix's 1/48 E kit I'm looking forward to it...

I'll stick  up some images later. We start on the 6th is that correct??

I'm Building this kit...

And will I think use one of these schemes...

I might get some bits from Ultracast but time and funds permitting...

Cheers

Ok I've ordered the  Ultracast replacement seat, prop, wheels and exhausts...

That should give a lift to the kit parts.... but I need to finish this off before I start....

Yes it's the  Airfix 1/48 BF-109 E1,E3,E7 boxing... The Kit is ok.. The Decals are utter rubbish hence I have been painting the markings on this E1...

The Tamiya Kit is better IMHO.. But the Airfix kit is ok...

A word of caution, this is  one of the decal sheets that gets Aeromaster the 'errormaster'  tag..

I presume you don't wish to do another Spanish.... but

IIRC the Hungarian nightfighter has no proof apart from an ancient profile,  oft repeated.

the cross on the Bulgarian is too thin (Errormaster did this on a few Bulgarian schemes...)

Messerschmitt-Bf-109E7-Vazdushni-Voyski-

from

https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-109E/RBAF.html

not impossible to adjust with a photo to work from,  more in link.

the Swiss 109's have some small unique features not in any kit,  there is a walkround of a preseved Swiss 109 in the 109 Datafile,  but they have different cowl guns and control stick again, from memory. The does list and illustrate the differences.

I'm away from the book but can dig out the info if you require.

the Hungarian V5+06 is likely wrong too, they got very few E's

note

http://mmpbooks.biz/shop2/product.php?productid=17655&cat=&page=1

has a youtube flick through of the book, and at 2.42 there is a profile (and photos too small too see clearly in the preview) of a Hungarian E '6' which you perhaps could do using the '9' from the Bulgarian with the Hungarian crosses.

have the book on order so can check at some point soon.

The Romanian cross is likely to be incorrect, ,  there are a lot of subtle variations.   I have the (now rare) Romanian fighter colours so can check that if you wish.

Hope of use,  apologies if not.

cheers

T

The tamiya kit is a lovely kit, I built an e-1 for the BoB GB and it went together with no problems!!

I look forward to seeing the finished result!

Troy, the list would have been much shorter if you would have stated what is correct on the sheet :o

As Troy stated, the Swiss 109Es have some noticeable differences. If you are interested you can check my build here as I mentioned them. Also all aircraft had been painted in RLM 70 by 1941 and the marking on the decals was introduced in September 1944 and not 1941-42.

Hi Troy,

Here is my ethos when it comes to model building.

Hopefully this helps you understand me a bit better..

I really enjoy construction and painting of a model far more than I do research. Personally I find when you disappear down the rabbit hole of research and 'ultimate accuracy' it's more often than not difficult to get to a definitive answer which leads to indicision and you build or paint nothing as there is more research to do...

Like a lot of folk on here I have a stash of kits that I hope to work through before I die and TBH if I agonised over each colour scheme or minor accuracy issue then nothing would get built.

This is working for me as I build about 20 plus kits a year.

I realise for some research, ultimate accuracy, super accurate colour representation and cross forum research is important and effectively a hobby in its own right. Which I understand.

However that's not really me I just stick em together paint em as best I can and try and take a decent photo of them and enjoy posting them up on the odd forum.

So for my simple needs the Aeromaster sheet is fine.

Cheers

But isn't the purchase of these resin parts against your modelling philosophy and totally unnecessary ;)

Why correct parts and not care about markings :hmmm:

 Peter,

My 'philosophy' is personal enjoyment.. If a 'bit of resin' makes my build more enjoyable for me then thats ok.

Ultimately I guess I can build em how I want too.

You certainly can and I do like your philosophy - that is what making models is all about.

Have you decided in which markings you will build the kit? All the Axis power markings do look attractive.

 I'm Undecided at present TBH.

The Spanish schemes are for E1's and to convert the Tamiya kit backwards is more work than I want and  I'm building an Airfix E1 currently.

I'll make a start and it'll pan out....

Your Legion Condor Emil looks fantastic, can t wait to see your start.

Would the exhaust parts fit the Airfix kit too ?

Thanks for you kind words on the airfix build. The Airfix Exhausts are not too bad I reckon the Ultracast bits would fit with a bit of fettling.

I had some decals arrive last night to finish off the Airfix build so I'll get on with that over the next few days..

  • 3 weeks later...

So i have begun working on the Emil today.

There is a marked contrast between this Tamiya kit and the Zvezda Fredrich I'm also building...

The Tamiya kit is nicely detailed but simple with few parts.

I have been working on the cockpit today and added the replacement seat from Ultracast.

here are a couple of shots of it painted up and given a light wash and a bit of weathering...

The ultracast seat seat painted up nicely and with a wash the belts look very good I would recommend this to anyone building a Tamiya 109 or the Airfix one...

ill seal the fuselage up and get on with the build tomorrow...

cheers

Not called 'Errormaster' for nothing.

Crosses wrong style, and no white background

no number 9

nickname on port side only

no donald duck

no personal emblem

no ground kill bars

more pics here of other Romanian 109 E's, some  in colour

the Airfix trop kit does have correct markings for a Romanian option

though you had problems with the Airfix decals IIRC?

Perhaps try using really hot water to soften them?

I made a start on the decals once everything has had a couple of coats of Mr Super Clear.. That dried hard and glassy perfect for decals..

DA2E6252-3C97-4338-8893-5923E5165CDF_zpsMr Mark setter has made a pleasant job of the decals so far...

I like the scheme it's very colourful for a 109...
