P51-D Mustang 1/72 airfix

Recommended Posts

Just finished off this little gem

Can't find a bad word to say about it - a joy to build.

The tyres have flat spots on them AND rectangular axles and holes to align the flats with the ground surface! And it works! COOL...

I rearranged the prop fitting so I could foil the joined fuselage without the prop in the way.

The prop fitting worked a treat - couldn't resist giving it a blow for a photo

Been finding out about Col.Robin Olds . Some models of of his Lockheed Lightning"ScatII , Scat III"

Well, it turns out Scat IV was a 51-D

Hi Gerrard. No, the stick was a fail. You too?

It was easy to make a sprue replacement. I did a new aerial too.

I just finished a f101 Voodoo in 1/48, so you can imagine this was a bit fiddly in comparison.

Couple more;

Might try some more in the series. Are they all good?

Thanks for taking a look

Oh yeah, the Col. Olds thing .

I thought about doing a"Scat IV", but decided to go with the decals supplied for convenience.

Maybe next time...

The stick & the aerial, two of the constants with this kit, I think almost everyone has grief with them. :(

Steve.

Yes I have ordered a few replacements of these and out of 6 I only got one off intact. Nice build I fancy the new one too

Didn't think it was worth the hassle - I just made something to replace it! Wanted to crack on...

What's the new one? Same moulding with different decor?

Yeah just this one with the blue nose, I've built the rest in the offerings. Nice kits
