Sopwith Pup, Eduard 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hello,

on Friday I finished the latest project, which started beginning of this year. And after the great feedback for my D.H.2 Stripdown I like to show the latest here too.

This Pup was created from a very old Eduard short run kit, a 80PS Le Rhone form Small Stuff replaced the kit engine, real wood was used again for struts, air screw, gear, top of fuselage. The seat belts are the new steel from Eduard too and the decals come from Pheon. Painting was done with colors from Alclad, Gunze and Oils.

The etch parts of the kits were fantastic, but the Vickers was added from "Parts". A lof of brass was added for the terminals of the "RAF-Wires" and other details.

Have fun - I hope you will like it too,

Frank

Looks really like a Pup. Please note the open coolings of the Vickers:

Outstanding work, the natural wood areas are wonderfully done :worthy:

Wood looks most real if it is done with: wood. The "only" problem is to find the right species. Some, e.g. mahagony, has to many "water channels" and other problems. The finest for modelers seems to be pear (in general fruits cherry..) and boxwood.

Some further impressions...

I solder PE as far as possible:

The trick is a good fixating, here the full scratched stick of the Pup:

The stick is done:

And build into the cockpit, also the wooden instrument board is visible here.

Finally here the rotary engine, painted with different Alclads:

Thank you all!

That is a super model. Thaks too for the extra photos showing your methods - very helpful. I agree that the best material for wood is wood - I have taken to making props from wood for some time now. Struts in 1/72 scale in wood are not so practical though.

How so? Have you tried using bamboo cooking skewers? They're just about the right size, and can easily be sanded to the proper airfoil shape. They're also extremely inexpensive, so if you make a mistake you can throw it out without feeling as if you've wasted your money.

That's a really nice model.

I've always thought that the Pup was a nicely proportioned little aeroplane and your model really shows off its pleasant lines to good effect.

You've made a fantastic job of the engine and machine gun.
