US Air Force 1950's Letters/ Numbers...

Hi Guys,

Can you tell me if a decal sheet containing the above exists in 1/72, the numbers/ letters are rounded and not the 'cropped corner' type?

Failing that, does anybody know what the font is so I can look into making my own?

TIA

To save time, if you want the NA letters (for Sabres) they are not available as downloadable fonts. I asked the same a while back. There are some producers of decals but you need to do some searching. In the end I went for a machine that didn't need them!

Hi Martin, your previous response to this post was spot on, they're are for Sabres. Unfortunately, no decals exist for this particular one because it's for my TF-86 that I'm building at the moment. I was after more the generic type letters/ numbers and by the sounds of it different manufacturers had different fonts which doesn't help...so much for standardization! So it looks like this:

If you make your own the RCN_8O_ATH_GIMP font might be a starting point.

could be the way to go. Where can I find this font?

Thanks,

Stuart

Exactly, and NA was no exception. Sorry I can't be of more help.

A very basic Google search will find RCN_8O_ATH_GIMP  as a downloadable font

It is a fairly simple task then to transfer it into the font bank in your own computer

It cannot be too hard to do it, I managed it myself without help

Good luck, these USAF ones can be the very devil to find

Well, I must have sniffed too much poly cement this evening and may have effected my eyesight 'cos my google searching is finding nothing! Can you supply a link please?

It's not your Googlefoo that is misfiring, mine too but by dint of comprehensive trawling through FREE AIRCRAFT FONTS I found RCN and RCAF fonts in here

http://web.archive.org/web/20020210183915/members.aol.com/p5219/fonts.htm

I'm not sure whether these will help you but that Horvath site has gazillions of fonts for free download

http://hans.presto.tripod.com/fonts/stencil5.html

(Oh OK not gazillions but really quite a lot) ;)

Good luck with your quest
