Orangutan
made some mistakes the avionics doors left a large gap. probably due to me being a little overzealous in sanding them. styrene card was used fill the large gaps. also note the odd disjointed panel lines (circled in red). another negative > GWH panel lines are really soft (having built their MIG-29). would be re-scribing pretty much the entire kit to deepen them. On the plus side, the cockpit detail is really nice and would be a joy to paint For those following, the deadline for this build is 26 Aug 2017, due to a club meet. Hopefully I will get more interesting bits done in my next post cheers Shane
Red Dot
Yes, yes, yes. I am watching this one and am happy to give any advice / photos / references too. I've done a 1/48 Hasegawa kit and masked off all the stencils and panel lines rather than use the DXM decals as the colour is a bit off. They are their early ones and can crack a bit too - beware. The newer DXM ones are printed by Cartograf and are superb. The method was to paint the whole airframe in the F-15 greys, add all decals that needed masking, coat in Klear when dry, mask the stencils and panel lines, spray the colours, add the final decals such as the cobra head. Use Jammy Dog tape for the masking as it comes in set sizes from 0.5mm upwards. Much more consistant and easier than cutting a length with a ruler/knife. The aggressors usually only carry tanks and don't carry missiles very often, but there was even an AAM-5 training round in the video which is a first for me on them. Andy !!! by any chance would you have pictures of the cockpit? I am working on some mods, mainly a new circuit breaker for the back seat. Good tip on the masking tape. Mark This book is very good but doesn't include JASDF Eagles specifically. The best book is by Model Art called Profile No4 F-15 Eagle http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10085124 They do a series of books on modern JASDF types and cover each subject in great detail. Fantastic books. I'll see if i can dig out some pictures of my model to give you an idea about the masking of the stencils. It was really easy to do and only took about an hour Andy
Red Dot
hi Shane, Here's a photo. I think i used Two Bobs for the stencils as the grey background matched the correct colour best, but i also had the kit decals and DXM to hand as well. Once they are covered with Klear, mask them off by measuring (or guess) the height of the stencil text, then select the correct size of tape plus a bit of course. Chop up some lengths of tape to the correct length of the stencil plus a bit and simply stick them over all the stencils of that size on the air frame. Jammy Dog tape is see through so you can see if you have lined them up squarely. There aren't that many stencils as the colours are only on the top. Add the panel line masking using the corect width tape and you're done, ready for the blues. The book i mentioned above is really useful for all of this Andy
