Chinook ? upgrade from HC1 to HC2

LaurieS

Recommended Posts

Just starting to build a Chinook and wanted it as per Afghanistan era.

Upgrade from HC1 to HC2 or in USA terms CH47C to CH47D.

I have the Italeri 1/48 HC1 kit plus the  detail set 26002

Any help on the differences between the two types would be very gratefully received.

One of the biggest difference externally between the two is the opening at the front of the rear pylon above the combining XMSN. There are lots of differences between grills that on the Fwd and Aft pylons. Also there is an indented panel (Sorry but I cannot another way to describe it) on the rear pylon that flat on the Mk2. Most of the differences were internal, but another difference was that the Mk2 had 3 windscreen wipers, whilst the Mk1 only had 2. If you can contact Wez, he maybe able to give you a fuller list that I cannot think of off the top of my head.

Hi Laurie,

As if by magic...

...unfortunately, I can't really tell you any more than Jabba has already told you, if you want to do an Afghanistan Chinook then the Italeri CH-47D is your best starting point.  I would suggest very careful study of several photos but make sure they're all from the same time frame.

I'd suggest following Simmerit's thread in WIP which is super detailing a Trumpeter 1/35th scale kit as a British Wokka.

The two Chinook links from IPMS Farnborough site may be useful too!

Regards

Here is a link to Wez HC2 Conversion

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/28853-148-revell-chinook-hc1-hc2-conversion/

This is for IPMS Farnborough chinook improvements for the Trumpeter 35th Scale Chinook which might help.

Also this may help

Thanks for the info Wez much appreciated. Same thought had passed my way about the 47D. The only one I can find is asking £131 and rising.

I assume Italeri are trading as it seems there is a market. The second hand market even in the 47C is bare.

The Italeri 1/48 CH-47D is being re-released this year.

Thanks Stephen. Looked on Italeri Site and nothing in their new releases to date.

I have emailed them to ask if and when.

Suspect, unless the release is immediate, I will carry on with the C type.

Will be doing a diorama with all aircraft used in the Falklands and if the D type is immenient

I will use the C type for that.

Thanks again appreciated.

If you`re interest in the Chinook is more than just passing to build the kit the i can recommend the Haynes Chinook book highly, not sure how much help it`d be with a falklands era build as it seems to contain mainly recent (late 90`s onwards from memory as not got the book to hand) but worth a look if nothing else Linky

Thanks Armadillos I agree I bought it a few weeks back. Gave it a casual look. Now cannot find the darned thing.

Ordered another at the week end. Betting is the first will turn up before the second.

Many thanks kind of you to reply.
