and something has to be done to this nozzles and shrouds.... anybody nows how many petals these shrouds actually have? I counted 18 on an F-111C.... HB / Eduard provide 12 outer and ~14 inner petal details.......

I counted 18 as well (which Academy managed to do).  Hobby Boss... ehh, not so much!

resurrection from the very bottom of the GB... :(

shame on me!

but.... the youngsters only leave little time for active modelling at the moment!

I have not given in yet,

so here some progress:

I will try to make the wing swiveling mechanism work AND look decent on a model... I have succeded on a Tornado and a MiG-23, so why not here as well ? This time pylons come into play though....

20170620_214519_1_1_zpsykkzyuai

the cockpit section is ready to be clued on, should I add the canopy first??

20170620_214538_1_1_zpsxgbydxfs

and finally, i am thinking of gluing the upper main fuselage section to the cockpit section first, in order to have a better joint at the most visible part....

wonder if this will work finally.....

sorry for the dark pictures, those are caused by late night modelling sessions ;)

If you've  glued it in that last shot, that's a Very good job on the marriage of the cockpit cell and the fuselage werner ,that will pay off during painting,

arrr good to see this one rising to the top again. That cockpit does look really nice and fitting the canopy may help protect it and keep the dust bunnies out. At least your canopy is the correct shape!

Nice work with that join, that one does seem to be an issue with that model (The one of the HB monster isn't much better), looks like you got it spot on!

There's still time to finish her and if you're going for a grey beastie then the painting should be a breeze.

So will a Su-24 be joining the collection after this? It looks to be a natural progression and I know a few have mentioned it in hushed tones! ;)

not so fast guys.... that is only held in place unfortunately.... it was more asking for your opinions or warnings trying to do it this way ;)

but I did finally do like that ;)

first, more work on the swiveling mechanism:

I used super glue instead of the proposed screwdriver and plastic melting process...

20170621_232330_1_zpsiewqjzgd

top surfaces glued on:

20170621_233102_1_zpsv9ir9haf

that is what we can expect later on:

20170621_233116_1_zpsvo2yt17v

20170621_233138_1_zpstkokpnek

and some impression on what to expect:

cockpit sectino and upper main body section GLUED here! but not sanded yet ;)

nice work. Do those pylons stay inline correctly when the wings are moved?

thx,

more or less, with some help ;) the rotating joint are a bit on the stiff side still, but at least not loose (yet  )

will be hard to present something before the deadline :(

working on some method to improve the wing fairing... the academy parts are not very convincing as they just bend inwards when the wing is swept back, and leave huge gaps in every stage..

so I am adapting some cloth to re-create the respective area ;)

must have better pics somewhere... but can't find them :( other priorities than taking photos now :D

not correct, but better?

some painting could be done to improve specific the pattern...

Inspired idea werner  on the wing glove, I like it, bad luck on the schedule, these are big and complex models in 1/48 and we could have easily spent another month on them I think,  good work so far, no need to rush now

Another month? Easily!

But on the other hand...when one starts late AND interups for a month, only small models are achievable...

But 111s and only 3 months is not fair compared to, lets say - Hunters ;)

4 months would be mire relistic for part time modellers ;)

I like your idea with the glove Werner, I had though of trying something similar but it would just eat up extra time finding something suitable.

Yes I'm finding the 3 month build time way too short, though I was away for 8 weeks of it which didn't help at all. plus working in 1/48th and having a dog of a model (in my case) doesn't help.

But please keep at it, would love to see her finished.

so....

no idea if anyone can see the the old photobucket photos now.....  I can for strange reasons....

whatever,

I moved over to flickr, so slowly will be updating threads as far as reasonable......

some update:

worked on the exhausts, (a bit crude, but hopefully will look ok when installed ;) )

sanded a lot on order to minimize seams, and pre-shaded the model.

i will probably move parts of this thread to the WIP section soon...

but for the time I am testing flickr  ;)

Those can look good, nice work there. It must be close to painting time if you can stop flying her! :D They are super cool to see flying though.

It is painted already... but Tamiya gunship grey seems to be way too dark unfortunately....

Will post photos asap ;)

Flying her is indeed super cool! And spreading wings as well :D
