Antb
Hi guys Recently completed this one. Apologies for the rubbish photos they're the best I can do with the light at the moment. The Spadgent
She is a rather fine Messerschmitt sir. Really pleasing finish, did you add a semi gloss top coat or is that gloss? the yellow nose sets her off wonderfully, then again I would say that wouldn't I. Thanks for sharing. Johnny Thank you john, appreciate the kind words. Yes its a gloss coat. The Flory wash really dulls the gloss down after the decals have gone on and I like the semi gloss look it gets when the excess wash is removed. I then add a really thin gloss coat back on to give me a semi gloss look. I might go over with a Matt coat but I like the semi gloss appearance I've got on this chap. Theres so,etching about a bright yellow nosed bird isn't there. Im with you all the way on that one. Thanks again mate

Troy Smith
Looks very good Ant Yellow is a sod, did you not use a white undercoat? I read somewhere (here's probably) that apparently pink is very good UC for yellow, which sort of makes sense. A couple of glitches...... Bf109's were built like models, fuselage in 2 halves. As such they have a seam line... top and bottom. they did putty the seams as well, so looks like they did your spines puttying better from http://www.net-maquettes.com/pictures/messerschmitt-bf-109e/?afg234_page_id=1#afg-234 I think this is the one pulled out of a Russian lake, and as unrestored much original detail can been seen.(I only found this while hunting for a seam pic) and...Wnr 1190 has the early style rounded top canopy, not the later style square top, the kit has both, and I did mention that as Airfix used the 109E at Hendon, they got the square centre section wrong, as no-one told Airfix the 109 at Hendon lost it's original canopy at some point, as seen here while under test as DG200 regarding the 'shine' Luftwaffe pains have a slight sheen, note this one has yellow tailplane as well as wing tips some more colour shots here https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Bf-109E/JG26.III.html hope of interest, don't know if you have a garden, some pics outside would be worth doing, and from a distance to avoid the harshness of the macro setting would really set the build off. Here some garden shots done a loooong time ago http://www.aviationofjapan.com/2011/11/troy-smiths-tamiya-148th-hayate.html I've seen some very effective backdrops here with landscape posters and some grass matting as well, (look up the RFI of Plastix and Russ B for examples) And your 109 is finished, unlike mine sat in a box awaiting paint... cheers T Edited April 18, 2017 by Troy Smith spelling

I wasn't sure 're the seam lines running top and bottom so I got rid. I shall best in mind for the next time as I'm hoping to be able to pick another one up and join in with the GB that I see is upcoming. I see where you are coming from with the canopy too. To be honest I just followed the instructions as the other I canopy for the E1 just didn't look right to me and in any event I used it for masking when undercoating. So it's beyond saving sadly. I couldn't see whether white 4 would have had yellow wings tips so didn't paint them in. Do you reckon it would have had them? Been thinking of the final varnish and satin seems the way forward to give me that nice sheen. I will crack on and get that done. I really appreciate you going to all the trouble you have to provide me all the information you have. It's not that I've deliberately ignored it. I'm learning and every build I learn more and more. I'm not an aircraft expert i just like aircraft so input like you've given is great. Sun's out today so hopefully I can look at finding time to get some better shots. 6 hours ago, stevehnz said: That looks very nice indeed. I'm not an aircraft expert i just like aircraft so input like you've given is great. AFAIK Wnr 1190 did not have yellow wing tips, the pic of white 13 was to show an idea of the slight sheen to the German paint, glad the information is of use, I'm not an expert, but I've amassed a fair amount of knowledge about them, and I spend way too much time online, but that does mean I know what I'm looking for (google image search is a boon) and where to find it. I also know that many folks read threads here, so it maybe of use to other builders. You successfully shortened the UC legs and added some brake lines, which you hadn't planned, and have turned out a very respectable model, as opposed to my endless procrastination.... Look forward to some natural light pics, I often think it's a shame here when a great model is photographed on beat up cutting mat, funny thing is taking pics of that Ki-84 was one of the first things I did with my camera, and I wasn't modelling then, or would be for many years. cheers T

If I can learn something then that's what it's all about. Keep the advice coming, if you wouldn't mind. Didnt manage age to get any photos today as had an Impromptu trip to the coast with the family. Hoping the weathers good tomorrow as have the week off work and can get some snaps done then. Im going for a 1/48 Airfix (again) Hurricane next, again quite a simple build. Unsure whether to post that WIP or not as it's not the most interesting subject.

The kit is the new tool and I was actually going to ask how to make a better model now I have a bit more confidence with trying other things. I was going OOB with the markings but I'm going to have a look what I can find as I'm quite taken by a half black underside. I'll have a proper look through the links you've given. Had a quick look and it's looks fab. Thanks again

I was going OOB with the markings but I'm going to have a look what I can find as I'm quite taken by a half black underside. well...depending on your lunacy quota...or if you want to go down thea aftermarket route.... but, this photo is a 501 Sq Hurricane in France, the 'SD' code is visible, note this has the black/white wing, but aluminium under nose, and so under rear fuselage and tailplane (see the camo guide, pages 4, 15 and 17, note that a black port wing was used after the BoB, but this with Sky undersides) I don't know what the aircraft letter is, or the serial (though I could find one for 501 for this time) but if you wanted to use the kit decals you could the just use the 'SD-X' option, you could even leave off the serial as these were overpainted often in France. turns out I've already suggest this before..... but might be an interesting read anyway. As you can see, this plane ( and others in the batch) had problems with paint flaking off see while googling about this turned up... WOW! never seen it before, but here is the kit plane after the ramming shown on the box art...neat! cheers T
tango98
For those interested in Perez' 109E W.Nr. 1190 here are the intelligence summary and the Perez interrogation report: Crashed on the 30.9.40 at East Dean. Map reference R.0115. Markings 4+- . Markings had been <+. Crest: tiger’s head in natural colours on port side of fuselage. White shield with black F in addition. Yellow nose and fin. Airframe built by Erla. Parts by Weser Flugzeugbau Works No. 1190 date 18.9.39. Engine DB 601A made by Daimler Benz No.11954. Armament; 2 20 mm cannons, 2 M.G.17’s. Armour; normal cross bulkhead and pilot’s head shield and canopy. 100 octane mark in triangle marked on fuselage. Aircraft said to have been shot down by ground defences, a few strikes at angle of 45 degrees in aircraft through cooling system. Pilot force-landed – prisoner. 30/9/40 When Unteroffizier Horst Perez of the 4./JG 26 was shot down he was supposed to be escorting bombers but never located them and circled round north of Eastbourne. They were intercepted at 28,000 feet and made for the coast but were intercepted again and in the ensuing dogfight the engine of this aircraft failed. Apparently, there were no shots in the aircraft itself. The pilot made a forced landing with undercarriage retracted and the aircraft is in good condition. On getting out of his aircraft, this pilot was shot at and wounded in the hand and jaw. Notes: Whoever compiled the intelligence notes wrote fin instead of rudder and identified the Schlageter S as an F. No yellow recorded as being on the tips of the main wings or tailplanes. Upper camouflage – standard splinter pattern in two shades of locally formulated grey and not 74/75 as is often stated . (This determination regarding the upper colours was described elsewhere on BM some considerable time ago). The original Staffel <+ marking is/was visible under the 4 on either side of the fuselage. The number 4 on the port side is in a slightly different style to that on the starboard. Hope this is of interest Cheers Dave
