I am going to join this GB if I may with another Airfix Vampire.   We almost have enough being built for a separate gallery ;-)

I will leave out the spurs shots if I may as there are plenty already posted.

I have the Xtradecal Overseas Operator sheet which I purchased with the Swedish camo markings in mind.

However Averdeda has already started building a T.55 in the Swedish colours so I may go for something different (I have 2 more Vampires in the stash so the Swedish markings will get built!).   Any requests out there...?

Cheers

I'd be inclined to build a Kiwi bird as well.

Although the RAAF 2 OCU option is also quite nice, I have not seen evidence that these aircraft wore both yellow/black fin stripes and the Orange Dayglo trim at the same time.

Certainly fin strips in an all over Silver finish or Silver and Orange trim, however never both.

Of course, someone will now post a photo to shoot me down in flames, however with the references that I have and AFAIK - it's one or the other.

Cheers.... Dave.

Cheers for the input.  I have to admit my research has not been extensive to date (although with Easter coming up I may get some time).

Cockpit came together nicely.  I added some seat belts from tape (I will get the Eduard set for next time) and some ejector seat handles from thin wire.

Painted cockpit walls and dry brushed to bring out a bit of detail...its going to be pretty black in there.

We are going away to see family for a few days for Easter so had to pack last night (including some modelling stuff!) so not much time to move things forward.  Attached the cockpit to the fuselage and added some weight to the nose...hopefullly enough.

You have to love holidays especially when Mrs K actively encourages modelling time...that said it does help that this kit is rather beautifully engineered and comes together very nicely and quickly indeed.

A couple of coats of Halford Audi Silver (I read online that this is a reasonable approximation of High Speed Silver and to my eyes it looks ok) and we have this.

Next is am going to spray the tail white in preparation for the fluorescent red coat.  My only concern is that on a text spare it has take 4 coats to get anything like an even coat with Vallejo fluorescent red.   Any thoughts welcome.

The paint looks excellent, I'd be very happy with that. Nice work so far.

Cheers.  I am reasonably happy so far.  Posting a few more photos in a mo.

I applied the fluorescent paint (Model Air Fluorescent Orange) by hand.   After 5 coats of thinned paint I had this...

I did have one disaster however.  The spray silver managed to get under my hand cut masks on the canopy (Tamiya tape) and as a result I had quite a bit of sanding to do to get the hood back to some level of clearness.  I am going to do some further work on this area.

Cheers

I am going to call this one done.  It was a very nice kit to put together although I made a few mistakes that I will try to sort next time I make one of these.  Better photos to follow in the gallery.

Thank you everyone who has looked and commented along the way.  Thanks also to BM and the hosts for organising.

Great work, always good to see an RNZAF machine.

Cheers.  It is certainly a great scheme.   I was not totally convinced by the fluorescent orange but it seems close enough.

She's come up very nicely in those Kiwi colours there Dave,

I've also got these decals, so may need to buy another one of these great kits one day.

IMO - a small splash of gloss Red (L) & Green (R) paint to represent the wingtip nav lights might be useful.

Cheers.. Dave.

She looks great Dave, very nice work! That scheme is very nice, wise choice. Don't forget to put up to five photos in the Gallery. Thanks for taking part and well done on your build!
