longshanks
I've been struggling with motivation lately so I thought I'd try something different......... I've long been inspired by the work Bob Wilson aka ShipbuilderMN Latest post http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235016920-berwick-law-steel-barque/ Plus Ray S & now Murdo entering the arena I have long had it in my mind to build a series of British Coastal Trading/Fishing craft. Being realistic I'm not going to live long enough to build in what I would normally call a reasonable scale. At this stage I've also got it in my head that I want to build showing the full hull to demonstrate the many varied hull shapes. So the chosen starting point is the 'Clyde Puffer' a more basic shape I can't imagine.... but good to learn the ropes in this scale. I photocopied the plan and stuck it on plastic card 'bread & butter' style Brass sheet was cut out and let in for keel Bulwarks planted on outside, to be faired in, supports added on inside and the signature picture of the Parker pen That's it for now Kev Edited July 26, 2017 by longshanks

Considered a legend with my lot. Edited April 3, 2017 by Murdo
Martian
Great start on what is one of my all time favourite maritime subjects. The Maggie is my favourite film ever. You will be delighted to know that I am most definitely along for the ride on this one and will be offering all the support and encouragement I can! Ray S
Kev, this is looking good so far! How did you do the hull? You said 'bread and butter' style - is it just thick slabs of plastic stacked up then sanded to shape or did you use bulkheads and lay the plastic over them? I know it is probably a silly question... Great to see you getting into scratchbuilding a civilian vessel too, Bob will be happy there are three of us joining him now! Look forward to seeing more, Ray

You take the waterlines from the hull drawing and attach to correct thickness material build the hull up in steps. Sorry I didn't take any pics at that stage I was mucking about. Avereda
Aha - when I started modelling again it was partially sanctioned by Mrs Ave on the basis that at some point I would build up the skills to have a go at a Clyde Puffer, particularly the Vital Spark. Notepad at the ready...

Kev There were two well known television adaptations, "The Vital Spark" which ran between 1965 and 1974 with Roddy McMillan playing Para Handy and the later "Tales of Para Handy" (1994-95) with Gregor Fisher. There was apparently an earlier adaptation (ca. 1959) with Duncan Macrae but none of it survives. Best of all are the actual stories: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Para-Handy-Neil-Munro-ebook/dp/B00DFM713E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491249392&sr=8-1&keywords=Neil+Munro

Avereda
There's also a few links to some short videos on this page http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06s5n0f The programme's not available on iPlayer unfortunately, would have some useful information IIRC. Just checked again, it was actually this BBC Alba programme I was thinking of which shows the restoration of a puffer http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06vft28 - again not on iPlayer but the clips might be useful Edited April 4, 2017 by Avereda Extra link
