Best approach to 1/48 F-16D w. spine? (Israel, Greece, etc)

Recommended Posts

What is currently the best approach for anyone wishing to do a big-spined F-16D in 1/48, as in Israel, Greece etc? I've had the Eagle Designs resin spine/intake/gear doors etc sitting in my stash since the 1990's, but I think that was greatly surpassed long ago. Also, is the Hasegawa "D" still the best route, considering? I've read about Kinetic shape issues.

Hi Andrew

Well I can help a bit as I was looking for the 1/48 scale the other day you probably better look for the Italeri F-16B/D Viper kit even son that one already include the decals

I'd avoid the Italeri due to accuracy issues, even the Modeling Madness builder used a bunch of parts from a Hasegawa donor. Check out Habu's review from the wayback machine on the Italeri kit. The simplest solution is to track down a Hasegawa kit on ebay of the version you want, they've boxed just about every variant flown. Kinetic does an F-16I but depending on how you feel about the Kinetic F-16, Hasegawa may still be the better choice. Another route, which I haven't seen built anywhere is to do it with a Tamiya C and Wingman Models D Conversion.

I Have both Hasagawa D and Kinetic D and I. Hasagawa is based on a prototype and is poorly detailed. Kinetic has some shape issues but overall I refer their D and I as good value kits with full weapons fit and quality decals.

No model is perfect so for my money Kinetic. Italeri is very poor
