Char's Liberty Walk Lambo

Recommended Posts

so this will be my first 1/24 car kit, done a few 1/12 bikes and of course lots of gundam and scifi stuff. the theme will be gundam, neo zeon, sazabi with the decals.
so opened the kit today and really surprised how small it is, i think its due to not openning up a 1/24 car kit since i was a child. oh well it is what it is, ive also got the hobby design liberty walk upgrade kit and extra wheels and extra tyres.
the decals are hologram and il just use a few of them.
ive seen some photos of the finished kit and isnt as slammed as id like so may try and mock up and see if i can get it really low.
heres the pics.

Yes I'm also an LB fan, so interested to see the build and outcome. But as a retiree I can't afford the LB upgrade resin parts kits.

so got started today, spent most of the sanding mold seams and rescribing panels, i glued the front end on and also mocked up the wheel arches for clearance, the kit comes with brake disks that are offset so you can either have it totally slammed or put them on the other way and extends the ride hieght to fit larger wheels, ive gone for the slammed/lowered way, which will probably create tons of problems.
the resin wheels with tyres are about 2mm larger than these stock ones and the stock ones are already rubbing, so im thinking il cut away the middle of the arch and add a paper thin piece of pla plate.
ive got all the resin parts soaking in soap to remove mold release but im thinking im going to have to do a proper mock up with the actual wheels and tyres and also fit the body including the resin arches as i think they may also be a clearace issue.
oh well heres some pics.

Yes I'm also an LB fan, so interested to see the build and outcome. But as a retiree I can't afford the LB upgrade resin parts kits. I've built one of the Toyota Rocket Bunny and a Mustang with C1 resin arches similar to these. I had to tape them on in the right place, and draw round underneath so I knew where to cut away the arches both to fit the resin parts and to have sufficient room to fit the new rims/tyres. Here's a photo of my Mustang build showing the arches fitted after the extra plastic had been removed, and the previous move lining up the new wings/fenders in the correct places.

I hope this helps.

ahh thanks fella. il do some test fitting again after resin is clean.
had an hour free and i glued and filled the side skirts with homebrew plastic cement that is now a filler, il give it 48hrs before sanding off.

and i also cut the top of the arches..

sorry been a while, got side tracked by doing a little bearguy...

17973866_10155140074562744_705865027908617917822_10155140074712744_524497103111418055821_10155140074717744_624684096338617972033_10155140074727744_7717399782379

anyway, did a few details hand painting on the engine...

18056416_1877364292504132_3262056108395218076672_1877364332504128_3608297788753318121366_1877364305837464_60644179053870

and this morning layed down the primer on the body and some parts that will just end up matt black.
the bloody airbrush is buggered, cleaned out and started 5 times and after half a color cup things would get blocked which never ever happens with alclad primer, im getting bubbles sometimes and primer build up in the needle guard which will at any time spit large chunks of half dry primer onto the surface.. so payday is in a few days so i think im buy another neo and also get another needle/nozzle set to try and repair this one, hopefully il have 1 airbrush for metallics and another for paint and clear.
hears the pics, not much to see.

so thought F it il risk painting with the old airbrush, its still not right, afew bubbles in color cup and spluttering, but no spitting, so went for it.
i got some of the black parts done(gaia gloss lacquer black) first then did the body(mr color red 3)
il give it a day to dry, then il panel line, then il put a quick coat of clear to give it abit more gloss for decals :)

getting there, not been posting but been soldiering on, i got all the decals down with no silvering....
this pic is before i did all the tiny warnings like on gundams...

18278094_1883485238558704_66570233672719

18359012_1883485225225372_73768108104655

18278433_1883485178558710_87190219569905

then primed and painted all the other parts, the spoilers ive done in a dark gray and wheels will be black with a flat clear so flat black and brakes are bright yellow.
the cockpit is gloss black sprayed from far so gives a glossy but textured look and seats are same red again sprayed from afar.
18278115_1883485035225391_76459712063972

then i put down the 2k quartz liquid glass. was the first time glossing a car shell and had quite a few problems, had tiny areas that the clear didnt want to sit and would seporate just like oil and water, i tried blasting more and more and would keep seporating, its in three tiny pin pricks on the body and although not perfect it hasnt ruined it.
the other problem is i kinda rushed it and some corners are abit patchy, the thing i was worried about when doing it was to do it too thick and laying down too much, but ended up with areas that it was too thin.

18216690_1883485025225392_2380612911033618359152_1883484985225396_8880958054429218238808_1883485008558727_38796334210357

left clear for 48hrs then started to wet sand out mistakes, was using 5000grit and in the past when doing a mech it sanded out imperfections and was not a problem when i used compounds it would go glassy.
but on this model, it didnt matter how much i polished with compounds the scratches stayed.
18278298_1883484871892074_61832746938358

so asked around and was told i need some much higher grits, so bought some rubber sheets that go upto 12,000grit, i just got them in post today and had a go wet sanding with them, and they are working great, done 2 parts and have finally got that glassy finish.
18278548_1883484835225411_2263038547255018238862_1883484788558749_85852235601948
so thats where im upto, will sand compound and polish all parts over weekend, will flat coat the parts i need to and there is afew more parts i need to do metallic.
then just have to paint the inside of clear windows then i can put together. :)

Hi there mate, glad my suggestion worked for you. They are looking great.

cheeers fella :)
im 99% there now, put all the parts away, away from me when spraying metallics,.
painting inside of windows black is quite shabby, but to be honest im really at the end of my patience, in photo you cant really see it but had some burn through right on the top edge of the rear wheel arches.
im thinking that just running a fine brush over the edge with some red will be enough to blend so doesnt stand out.
wheels look great and are happy with them.

so put everything together and to be honest, il never buy another one of these piece of trash aoshima kits again(could be that all cars are like this, in which case il stick to mechs that actually fit properly and are fun, rather than prolonged torture)
i cant deal with the retardation of poor instructions, bad fit issues and poor kit design! the design of the rear lights and how you put them together and the order of the instructions is beyond all sanity, it took all my will power not to stanp on the bloody model and be done with it!
the windows also look crap and dont fit, which means when you try and glue them you need a fast setting glue, but that means they could pop out as its drying and put glue all over the window!

anyway, i took lots of pics of the process of building this....
so started with putting the brakes together...

18358804_1885051968402031_33383206363499
then put the engine in that i put together last week.
18320728_1885051965068698_83943735756635
then did the cockpit, all simple and fit well.
18359492_1885051971735364_4996617455325218359146_1885052085068686_24445528852435
and fit it to the chasis.
18359104_1885052088402019_30338267108023
then put the frnt grill on, which fit well.
18359470_1885052145068680_84813873805284
then the front lights and windscreen which tricky but ok.
18402111_1885052155068679_90510823896953

the side windows didnt fit, tried using tiny bits of super glue but kept poping out after a minute, had to hold it in for 15 minues then use watered down pva glue capilery action would seal the window.
18319086_1885052188402009_78694858041221
then i totally missed taking photos as anger level was at maximum doing the rear lights that look crap.
they dont fit, they dont have tabs to holds parts together and there is no way of gluing the clear part to the brake lights, oh and the orange blinkers both snapped when cutting from the sprue, so ended up painting the indicators with paint.
18319259_1885052198402008_41790992426130
the body was quite easy to fit, and the wheels are super tight fit which i dont mind as i wanted that look.
18422124_1885052238402004_6013449749287118404021_1885052248402003_15300843499174

then just glued the skirts and spoiler on and fitted the mirrors..
18422806_1885052281735333_3456225601905418320762_1885052291735332_2244765285276818402342_1885052345068660_1241485767579418359017_1885052351735326_2668994589375518359401_1885052385068656_4558949644185918359091_1885052391735322_5234823240222518404071_1885052465068648_4348445513252418358963_1885052538401974_2699270765934418404010_1885052508401977_4813670145390618404162_1885052501735311_4388888496251818359083_1885052455068649_69699038629258

so thats about it, the rear fenders need retouching with red and il go over with an indian ink pen again as some angles you can still see remains of white compound.
il take some proper photos in afew days.

overall im not happy with what ive done and feel wee weed off.
