Oh no! Another Porsche 917

Recommended Posts

While I have the Lotus 88 proceeding slowly in the background I have decided to try and get a quick build out of the way, so inspired by @Borez and @shood23 I'm going to build another Fujimi 917K, this one is Helmut Marko (yes, that Helmut Marko) and Gijs van Lennep's Martini Le Mans winner.

This will be a quick build, oob, with just the Studio 27 PE for some extra detail.

So far I have started on the bodywork, just a bit of clean up and glueing, with a bit of filling to do.

Great injidup looking forward to seeing your progress. I have the same kit in my lot of 917s I am a little wary of the martini stripes going over the curves of the front end properly that is why I started of my 917 adventure with a simple gulf car.

I have to admit that when I was looking into these cars last year I was a little shocked when I saw Dr helmet marko drove this, I've always thought what right does he have to judge if a driver is good or not in the rbr driver program.

He lost an eye in a racing accident, too!

I chose this one as it was on special! And I do like the Martini livery, although I'd really like to make the no. 20 Gulf car from the Le Mans movie. If this build goes well I may buy another 917 and make that version.

I am making slow progress with this one. Have the body in primer and have started assembling the mechanical gubbins that are visible at the rear of the car. Plenty more to see in the builds by Borez and Shood23. I hope to get some more work done over Easter, maybe get a white coat on and some Martini decals.

Yes, and the white coat has a lovely pocket full of pens! That post made sense at the time, glad it provided some humour!  How's that Panigale coming along? :P

And Shaun, I have only 2 cars on the go, so even worse performance compared to you. It's still quite summery here (it's officially autumn already) and I've also started mountain biking again,  will be spending more time indoors as the weather cools and the nights get longer.

Can't beat a good laugh. I have given the Panigale body parts a coat of shiny stuff whilst spraying the Escort. And before you ask, I have been working on some 3D CAD models for the spoked rims and hubs too.

Re Ducati's I see the Hyperstrada has been dropped and replaced by the Multi 950. Oh good more weight and unnecessary electronic gizmos.

To be honest the Hyperstrada was an odd beastie. Probably not comfy enough for touring and no better than the motard in the twisties, but more expensive. I did a day's ride on mine and I would have liked the 'strada screen as the wind blast is a bit tiring. I expect the 950 Multi is quite a good bike. Does it have all the electronics of the bigger bikes?

Looking forward to seeing the fruits of your labours on the wheels. Please post pictures of your coat of shiny stuff.

Looks like you beat me to it with the photo of 'Bin Bag Man'! I'm using Alclad Klear Kote for the first time and I'm not impressed, the finish is like a coat of semi-gloss sandpaper on large areas.

The Multi 950 has much the same electronics as its siblings but more budget suspension. There are plenty of reviews online. I see Benelli have a TRK502 out soon - looks familiar?
