The guns really do look good. I try not to go overboard with my AM purchases as it's easy to spend more on them than the base kit, but I think I will invest in them for some of my future 1/32 builds.

John

I would for sure they're splendid.

The "Oh Dear" was because it's probably the model I've seen left unfinished most often.

No worries though, I'm sure you'll do it full justice John.

Yes I'm struggling to find a good ref build.

That and @CedB's rigging escapade has forced my hand slightly. :fish:

That's right, blame me why don't you :D

I thought my rigging was hard... now look what you're planning.

Be great to see it Johnny, I wish you luck.

Not wishing to add to your problems (much) but have you seen Vadim's rigging? We didn't think it was that effective at 1/72 'cos tube that allows you to actually thread the line looks too big at this scale. What scale is yours? If it's 1/48 this video might help (started at the 'method' bit)

Edit: I was looking for the eyelet technique as I think it'll be easier to position the eyelets. As well as Vadim's, Jessica posted here about it. Wish I could find the video, sorry.

I think it is Airfix 1/72 :)

Hey Johnny, it's going to be a huge challenge to rig this one :)

Here is the picture I googled of the entire sprue:

Ced, you probably was talking about this one.

Hey Johnny ( @The Spadgent ) it may be helpful.

Tom Grigat is famous for his stepmotion videos, and specifically rigging technique using eyelets. His YouTube channel includes many interesting stepmotion videos including rigging.

More of a thank you at the moment. I'm guessing by everyone's reaction I might be cursing you by the end of it.  thanks for the hints. There are instructions on how to rig it in the kit. I was going to use the holes provided. Am I mad? Probably. :giles: yes it's 1/72 .

Thanks for the pic. I actually already own the kit. I've been eyeing it up for a while.

I did mine back in 2003 so no WIP. The fit of the fuselage and nacelle parts was rubbish, although an original kit might be OK there. The main problem with the rigging is that in a model of this size it really needs to be structural and getting the wires to pass all through the void between the wing halves was a nightmare. The way overdone wing ribs also need sorting out although I must admit I did wimp out on that one. I have a conversion kit for the 0/100 so I will have to face up to these issues again myself at some point.

Martian the No so encouraging.

Hello Spad,

I'll follow the H (arry) P(otter) thread, that will be instructive and... well let's say fun.

My daughter is a great fan of HP, she saw it on your post and was asking me if there is kits for Potterhead ??

I don't feel ready to make one:poke: for myself

When you say little but big, my first thought was for a 1/72 B-52 or a B-36 Peacemaker:hobbyhorse:

But the 0/400 fill the job too.

I'like to see the P-38 finished, very nice job.

Sincerely.

Not that I've ever tried this, but couldn't some glue (or similar) be applied to the end of the rigging thread to stiffen it up so that you can push it through the void?

I used fishing line which is of course already stiff. I found that the problem was the actual depth of the void in the wings. It can be done but is very time consuming and frustrating at times.

Ah, are they that thick in 1/72? I suppose it was a big beast.

Of course, I have every confidence that Johnny will come back from his holiday refreshed and with a novel solution that modellers everywhere can use in the future...

we are done! :yahoo:

I took her outside just for my own gratification. No RFI until I return from my hols. I need to get ready as this subtle hint shows, I'm off to see yet another classic rock act tonight.
