The Spadgent
Morning chaps. Small amount of progress that I thought I should share before I get more time tonight. (The wife's out and the kids have portal 2) First off the front end of the fuselage got pinned and glued. With that drying I turned my attention to these beauties. I decided to see if the brass flaps fitted Ito the hole I had cut in the boom. Alas no joy so I had to cut and sand until eventually. then again with the others. While I was at it I sorted out all the little holes and vents. After all that the front had dried. really quite a good fit and from the front. see how all the little pit nobs are still in place? Wanna see me eat my words? any way if you are going to build this make sure you do this step the other way around. Peg on nose. After all that lovely fitting I assumed the IP part would slot right in. Wrong. it didn't have the wiggle space of the dry fit so parts of the pit needed trimming. after a squeeze and a shove it fitted. I had to fashion a clamp as the space was super awkward to hold it all in place and during the struggle. Bah! Well at least I caught em. I'm leave em here until later. gotta fly, the wife has lost some fitting for a thing she wants hanging on the wall and I need to not be on my telephone. thanks for popping in. more later. rob Lyttle
Dramatic cliffhanger or WHAT...?!? We're on the edge of our seats here.! Voice -over guy; can he pull it back? Has he got all the bits? Has he got what it takes!? Can he hold his nerve in the face of such adversity...?? Jeopardy is the word I'm searching for. Such jeopardy....!😱 Can't wait..... Good luck with your build. Are you doing a WIP? Jont. Just found this WIP and so far it is great. Always liked the P-38. As a kid I was living in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas where the Confederate Air Force (now the politically correct Commemorative Air Force) began. There weren't very many aircraft in the beginning, but I will never forget seeing Lefty Gardner in the white P-38 putting on his demonstration. I have used these decals for my build of Nulli Secundus for the group P-38 build and you won't be disappointed. They react very well to Micro Set/Sol. The nose art does try to curl, so be careful. Once on the kit, they look great. Your build is so much more involved than mine and so much better. Enjoying your progress and comments.
Thom216
Looking good and nice save on the parts. Shame it couldn't just slip together for yah, but that's when modellers excel!

I think the idea is they make em a bit wonky so you get more modeling fun for your buck. 6 hours ago, rob Lyttle said: Dramatic cliffhanger or WHAT...?!? We're on the edge of our seats here.! The Spadgent
Ok slight change of plan. The modelling night last night turned into a Movie night with the kids and then horror movie night for me and some wine. Today was so nice we went on a family bike ride so not much time for plastic. I did however get a little bit done in between life things. while letting the nose dry the wheel wells got some attention. why so many pin marks on the side you see. never mind a few sweeps with the sanding stick and wammo. well apart from this one that I will probably make look worse so I'll leave it. I glued on the PE and did a little dry fit. There's a pipe to fit and a little more PE but I'll paint everything separately before assembly. sure is a great addition over the kit though. here's the front wheel door. Pinmark hell mk2 I'll tackle that later. First the rear doors. as you can see the detail is a little bit basic so I'm looking forward to the PE additions. I have to cut off the hinges with no replacements so I guess I'll need to scratch those later. So any way. WHAM! off with the hinges, I sanded the old detail off and added the PE. much better. I did this on the other three and turned my attention to the nose again. The fit wasn't too bad but needed some sanding so. and. needs some Mr S so on it goes. that can dry over night before sanding. I decided to drill out the coloured lights on the under side too. First small guide holes. then bigger ones. ill paint them silver and add punched clear discs later on. just before I finished for the night I filled the nose with lead and stuck with Gator grip. I'm planning an early rise tomorrow so hopefully more plastic action. Happy egg day everybody and hope you all get some quality modelling time in. take it easy, and thanks for popping in. Johnny egg. giemme
Excellent progress, Johnny Photoetch! For nasty pinmarks like those, I made a small Dremel tool to help removing the big part of them. It's basically a toothpick shaft with a flat end, on which I glued some sandpaper (I have two for different grits); it allows you to focus on little areas, but beware of overheating. Leonl
Great work. Those pin marks need some serious attention. Eek why do the put them on visible surfaces? Like Giorgio says I have a Dremmel type tool that would sort them out. That etch really is an improvement.
bentwaters81tfw
Just found this - very impressive. A pointer for you before you commit to paint. The wheel wells and door interiors should be NMF or painted aluminium. They were not any shade of chromate primer or interior green. I researched this a year ago for my P-38 builds, even finding ex factory film footage. Pay no attention to restored machines.
