"Oooh Matron" It's a P-38 Lightning with a saucy paint job in 1/48

Recommended Posts

My choice would be for the second one.... with the eeerrr stripes on... :)

really like the p-38, very cool looking AC! I built the hase 1/72 and really enjoyed it... I plan to build some more.

looking forward to your progress mate!

Go for it Johnny Lightnin'.

There's a corker of an accurate Pee-38 out there for Fs2004 Flightsim(The all-red "Yippee" IIRC).

I used to virtually "display" it some years ago and can attest that they go very well plus being pretty nimble for a big lass.

I also note that the good Dr is once again piftly swissing behind the instructions,he really IS a rascal.....

Like Tony's spoonerism of Miss V.Nert Pipples too(be he did a bit of "twiddling"too, trying to tune in no doubt).

Great stuff Johnny, looking forward to this. I have a 1/72 MPM P-38J and some aftermarket decals for Col. Olds. Scat III.. I can't wait to start that but by modelling rules I must finish what's on the bench! Beautiful Bitch does it for me. It'll look great with the red spinners and yellow tails.

Thanks. Actually started tonight, I'm swaying toward the Vagrant now although I love the BB. Good luck with your build. Are you doing a WIP?

Hello Spad,

No, I still remain for the Viagran Virgin even if WW is tempting:wub:

So, I restart mine... Thank for the spark :dinosaur:

Sincerely.

Mom yes I'm being swayed. Ooh do it are you doing a WIP? I could get tips.

Looking like a draw. The only solution to this quandary is to build two!

I did the Hobby boss 1/48 easy build kit a while back and loved it. Remarkable bit of moulding- the main airframe was a top and a bottom, and fins!

This looks a little more involved.

Looking forward to it.

I'll have a look for yours. Is it on here? I'm thinking if it goes well I might just build some more.

My vote is for "Beautiful Bitch" but that's probably because I'm an American with a penchant for profanity 😂😂

The speed of your builds is amazing, such a joy to watch too!

Thankyou I usually just plod along but the plastic is just so darn addictive.

Wicked Woman is wooing me! You're going to have to build one kit per decal sheet.

It's the only logical thing to do...

Don't tempt me.

I would go for Wicked Woman or possibly Vagrant Virgin, they have the best artwork by far.

Martian

I wonder what makes you say that?:wicked: But I think Mrs V is on top at the moment. (no pun intended)

Mmmm, nice resin parts!

As for interior green, XF-71 is not the way to go IIRC.

Have a look here

http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2004/01/stuff_eng_interior_colours_us.htm

With that said, I´d opt for a mix of 2 parts XF-3 Flat Yellow and one part XF-5 Flat Green.

Ok cool. Thanks for the tip.

I'd go for wicked woman too, and if so I think she should have her flaps deployed ;)

I feel that the only opinion I am able to give is:

Your modelling desk is far too tidy!

I always tidy up at the end of a build but even so I love a tidy desk. Keeps me sane. :police:

Evening folks. Not quite the update I had planned as I had to ferry the kids to and fro tonight to their school play then help with some late homework.  But I DID actually start some work.:christmas:

Its all about the pit tonight. I had a go at fitting the main part into the fuselage but realised it wouldn't JUST go in.

the kit and resin part side by side. I checked the instructions and a lot of the new parts need some Dexter action.:wicked: So out with the dirty old mat for cutting and deploy Dexter.

Ten minutes it took to get here! The part is  thin and felt very snappy if I applied too much pressure so I let the saw do the work and after another ten minutes......

and a tone of dust were pretty much through. :yahoo:

dont forget your masks people resin dust is crappy for the lungs.

side by side again and the resin is looking a lot better.

I did a test fit in the fuselage and et voila.

It just slots in. No really.:coolio: I'm sure it'll not fit with the rest added.

taking of the rest.

radio stuff, I think it's radio stuff. Zap!!:mental:

look at the dust fly! Resin everywhere. :guitar:

Right yes well after all that I tidied up did a bit of sanding down and put away the hard core cutting mat and we are here.

I left the tiny parts on the block as I can get at them with a scalpel when needed. Sorry mess hounds we're back to tidy ville. :captain: I need a cup of tea after that.

next time we will be PE bendin' and a stickin' stuff together.

Thankyou all for all the great input and interest in this. I'm really enjoying this build, I'm planning on testing out the metallic finish on a mule first but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Thanks for stopping buy. Take care and as always. Happy Modelling.

Dear Whirling Dervish,

No, mine isn't on here. The build was nearly 2years ago now, and haven't been on BM very long.

As is my tendency, I went for the nmf décor, and did the airframe in sticky back metal foil. I discarded the daft artwork supplied .

You'll know this already, but prepare for a shed load of ballast up front - nose, nacelles, anywhere it'll fit. Resin heavy, is it?!?😃

Good start getting all that resin dust out of the way. It will be interesting to see if it fits the kit properly.

As to the selfie, you're not my long lost cousin from Phobos by any chance are you?

My choice of nose art is primarily motivated by the Baron's woeful lack of effort to come up with a follow on for Maureen!

Hi Spad,

Waf ! The mask and the saw make you looking as a kind of Hannibal Styrene Lecter !

Usually, I use some sand paper on a piece of marble or thick glass, starting with very coarse one (60 or 80)

And finers ones, but the glass allow you to stay level.

With the saw, I broked lots of resin parts

Nice job on your parts, about the tips, I'm sure that I will receive some from you:D huh !

Sincerely.

Hmmmmm, much firm sawing action,I like it.

As to the selfie/speed hair-do malarky,I thought "He's been out on his motorbike without his helmet on"or some such similar

hair/wind action sport.

Nice hatchet work on the resin John, but hell sir, your selfie scares the bejesus out of me - sort of Jack Nicholson's The Shining meets Black Sabbath's Never Say Die meets Dennis Hopper's Blue Velvet character meets mad modeller high on resin dust! Gonna have to have a load o beers to get to sleep tonight.
