"Oooh Matron" It's a P-38 Lightning with a saucy paint job in 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

Welcome to my latest WIP of the lovely

Academy P-38 Lightning. 1/48

Ive been itching to start this for some time now and was held up only by my Eurofighter's canopy malfunction.  which has now been remedied and can be found here in RFI

(link to be added)

I bought this kit a while ago having a yearning to go all silver something I tested out on my Vampire build last year. I'm planning on doing some new techniques on the weathering and painting of the silver panels so fingers crossed all goes to plan. I had also planned on doing the "droopsnoot" variant but while waiting for the Eurofighter parts I ended up falling out of love with the kit decals and falling in love with the brash American nose art that adorned these planes so I went and bought some rather saucy after market decals and some other bits and bobs while I was at it, what was that about the devil and idle hands?  So here's my homage to Bold American Aeroplanes with a penchant for rather inappropriate nose art.

I hope you will join me it's going to be fun. (Probably) after all it's nearly Summer. :yahoo:

First up some pictures of what I'm starting with.

The box art is lovely.

And here are the decals I'll be using.

I love the olive strips on the nose but I'm still not decided on which scheme to go for.

this one with a yummy yellow tail and red nose.

Or this one with swirls and stripes.

any preference?

also while checking over the kits office I noticed the lack of detain on the IP and other areas so I couldn't help myself and bought this.

looks rather pretty.:giles:

I doubt if I can make a start tonight but I thought I'd at least start the ball rolling.

Thanks for joining me and as always.

Happy Modelling.

Jont you're making me follow a BIG WiP but, as it's you, I'll bite my tongue (there has been wine...)

Aires AM - good luck matey! Yellow tail and RED NOSE is very topical. Just saying...

Hello Spad,

Here we go again, sparking my envy to take back my double Lightning bang,

A monogram and an Academeduard !! I can resist to anything but the temptation

I'll follow, Chimay blue at the ready with some cheese cube, belgian way !:drink: and:drunk:

I prefer the Virgin even if the B*** is more colorfull, did I became romantic ??? or so ???;)

Have a nice day.

Sincerely.

Good choice.

It'll be a biggun', P-38´s are deceptively large.

Crikey!

What a nice set of markings you have there.

Nothing like a nice big twin boomer :).

I'm drawn to certain aspects of the  'Vagrant Virgin';

Something about her reminds me of a friend I once had at university, also a brunette ;

Miss V. Nert Pipples.

Best regards

TonyT

I have the Glacier Girl boxing of this kit in my stash, so I'll tag along if you don't mind :) Very curious to see how the Aires cockpit fits in here.

Oh my Gosh!

Nice kit (sort of, but at least its somewhat available) NMF, splashes of colour and scantily clad ladies?

The only thing missing is a sharkmouth or two....

Aires 'Pit is probably easier to install than Eduard, from what I've heard, so good luck with that!

Oh Wow guys. It's great to have you all along.  I'm leaning toward the "Beautiful Bitch" at the moment but I'm still torn those swirls! And I'm talking about the props. Hopefully the pit will fit better than the Prowler one, at least this one is designed for the kit. I'm building.:pilot:

It was the kids Spring show tonight so no real modelling but I have unpacked the pit. It looks really good actually.

it says to paint the main parts "interior green" I'm guessing this is Tamiya XF-71? I've looked up some ref and it looks right.

I also got all the bags open. There are a lot of parts. They look really well moulded and very crisp. B)

as you can see by the wings she is a pretty big bird, so maybe I should go for the "Vagrant" or maybe the "Wicked Woman"

:o honestly! :analintruder:

The instructions look pretty straight forward and the decals look like a walk in the park compared to the Eurofighter. :police:

I'll make a start on the pit tomorrow night.

Model night Tuesday.  Thank you all once again for dropping by and taking an interest in this silver wonder.

Take care y'all and Happy Modelling.

Great stuff Johnny, looking forward to this. I have a 1/72 MPM P-38J and some aftermarket decals for Col. Olds. Scat III.. I can't wait to start that but by modelling rules I must finish what's on the bench! Beautiful Bitch does it for me. It'll look great with the red spinners and yellow tails.

Hello Spad,

No, I still remain for the Viagran Virgin even if WW is tempting:wub:

So, I restart mine... Thank for the spark :dinosaur:

Sincerely.

Looking like a draw. The only solution to this quandary is to build two!

I did the Hobby boss 1/48 easy build kit a while back and loved it. Remarkable bit of moulding- the main airframe was a top and a bottom, and fins!

This looks a little more involved.

Looking forward to it.
