coolingthunder
I am currently building the Airfix 1/72 EE Lightning F6. I'm planning on finishing it as XR727 as found on the Xtradecals decal sheet, with the DSG/Dark green top camo. There, it says that the underside should be aluminium. My question is, what sort of aluminium are we talking about? Is it NMF (which I always thought was a rarity on British aircraft), is it high speed silver, dull aluminium,... From the pics I have found on Google, I can't quite make it out, so I was hoping to have somebody more knowledgeable help me out. Thanks!
Wez
NMF - the Lightning was the exception to the rule.
bentwaters81tfw
NMF, don't forget the rectangular fuselage panel under the wing. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/EE_Lightning_F6_XS904_BQ_(7173136126).jpg
canberra kid
I can't remember exactly, but at some point some areas of the underside where painted in High Speed Silver, I think the tail planes were one such area? John
tweeky
Main planes (wings natural metal polished tho) D door and u/c fairing HHS from memory. The stress panel is the area of the fuselage was bare metal. the same as the intake ring and the area around the reheat pipes.
