Habu12
I stripped the plating on this one and painted it.

The Chief Smeg
I've got this guy in the stash and I was wondering about painting one of the extra arms that you get with the kit in red, then I remembered I'd also need a spare hand!
Habu12
The kit comes with spare hands, in different poses, so you're good.
The Chief Smeg
Awesome. I'm guessing you stripped the gold of using bleach yes?
Habu12
Bleach? Oh no, that wouldn't do anything. A vat of SuperClean degreaser.
The Chief Smeg
I'll try a bit of caustic soda - the only degreaser I have in the garage is a splash left in a 5 litre container of 'jebsol' (trichloroethylene) which is seriously powerful stuff and I think it would destroy the kit parts - it was seriously good at degreasing my old '52 Norton primary chain case though. Habu12
I don't know what any of that is. I've only ever used SC for stripping. And remember that there's a glaze coat on the bare plastic that also has to be removed.
The Chief Smeg
Trich degreaser is now a banned substance because if it's harmful effects in the environment, in all probability the stuff I have will have flashed off a few years ago (had it for lots of years). Caustic soda is used for descaling kettles and that will easily lift the glaze coat too - thanks for the advice! Now I just have to finish all the projects I have started before attempting this one lol!
Habu12
SC is biodegradable and non-toxic. But I can imagine it still might not be available to you. It was able to strip it down to bare plastic in under a day. It's good stuff!
