Mrs PlaStix's 1/35 Tamiya Dinosaurs

Recommended Posts

Several of these are sold as Dioramas and I suppose they are as there are several elements to the models plus bases... but there is only a small element of creativity devoted to the bases, so I think they sit better in Figures, especially since I posted their construction in Figures: Work in progress.

I first came across Tamiya Dinosaurs in a Model shop in Birmingham, the kits were piled up by the door, I dug through the heap and found the Triceratops - it was love at first sight! Having only built a ship before, it was a steep learning curve but with a lot of instruction and teaching from Mr S, I finally managed to finish:

Hi Christian - Thanks for the comments I know, got enough grief from one of my Year 8s - he informed me smugly that grass wasn't around then - I argued artistic licence or Jurassic Park...

I'm never going to embarrass myself by attempting to emulate your work Mrs P. Stunningly 'lifelike' (and I don't even like dinosaurs).

Don't be daft, if I can manage it I'm sure you could! :)

You inspired me to build one of these with my daughter recently, very colourful it is too!!  Great Work!

Brilliant!!! It's a shame they don't make a greater range of non military/transport type kits, I'm sure they could get more people modelling if they did! - Please let us see some photos of your dino :please:

Great job Mrs.P, very lifelike!   :worthy: I don't mind the artistic license at all   but you could convince Stix to setup a proper backdrop/base for you - or teach you how to do it

Ciao

I was meaning to post all these together, but was interrupted by work (most annoying!)

My second Dino project was a real 'biggie' the box was ginormous!  It was the Tamiya 1/35 Brachiosaurus Diorama:

I did a bit of work to try and improve the base, but it isn't really up to the standards displayed in the Diorama section!!

My final Dino kit (well, there's still the T Rex diorama and the velociraptors...) was the Tamiya 1/35 Chasmosaurus Diorama I liked their shape and character, as before I did some work on the base:

Very very nicely done Mrs Plastix, dont sell yourself short, i would be happy with the base's as youve done them.

Cracking job, just love the dinosaurs.

All the best Chris

Cheers Chris, no, I just meant that the artistic standard in Dioramas is much higher than the stuff I've done so far! Glad you've enjoyed the Dinos!

A nice collection there and all finished to the same high standard. Really, really nice! :like:

A question for the Y8, when did grass appear...?:wicked:

Answer 66 million years ago when dinosaurs still had a million years of owning the Earth left! The presence of grass was confirmed by the presence of phytoliths in dinosaur coprolites, (A.K.A. poo!). Unfortunately, none of your rather handsome collection were around then:shrug:

Very nice. The detail of the eyes really brings them to life.

That's the hardest bit, took several attempts to get the white dot just right... didn't quite succeed on some, but very satisfying when it does! Thanks John for your kind comments.

Ha - it's as I thought, domestic tasks are taking over - you've got your priorities right !! Mr S will sympathise with that!!  :innocent: We were only chatting about your absence from the site last weekend - I said that you were probably doing all the DIY, etc.. All the best!
