Beard
Despite making over a dozen of the Airfix Spitfire I, it occurred to me that I've never made it in the markings that are in the box. I plan to put that right with a quick out-of-the-box build. As my KP Spitfire I (cannon-armed) is nearing completion, I've made a start. Bits that are grey-green have had a first coat of Sovereign Hobbies RAF Interior Green, bits that are black a coat of Humbrol 33 and, bits that will be silver have had a base coat of Humbrol 33. This bloke will be looking for alternative employment. Here's the nearly done KP Spitfire Thanks for looking. Jaffajake
That was quick. You've been bashing these out quickly lately. Nice job!

TonyTiger66
I'm in Simon. May the Spitfire frenzy continue! The KP one looks very nice. Out of interest, what's the upside down one in the background? All best regards TonyT

CedB
I'm in Simon, of course! Interested to see how the 'black basing' on the internals comes out.

It wouldn't be the same without you. 8 hours ago, CedB said: Interested to see how the 'black basing' on the internals comes out. And you will find out later. Before painting alumimium over matt black, I did some work on the cockpit, adding the head armour and painting most of it Sovereign Hobbies RAF Interior Green... You'll notice that I've painted the seat aluminium... my scanty research suggests that the plastic seats weren't introduced until mid-1940; as P9495 was built in April 1940, I decided aluminium would be appropriate (and I like the contrast). The seatbelts are Tamiya tape, painted with Tamiya acrylic Buff. I also stretched some sprue... Why? Because I needed some for the seat adjustment lever... The thicker bit will be used later. Finally, although I actually did this last night, the fuselage halves have been glued together... Once the paint on the cockpit bits are dry, I'll insert them in the bottom. I'm going to have another cup of tea, thanks for looking. Edited March 13, 2017 by Beard to correct grammar.

Beard
I said this would be a quick build so, here's some more progress. If you were wondering what that other piece of stretched sprue was for, Airfix didn't bother with the rudder accentuator (?)... The undercarriage has had a coat of Humbrol Metal Cote aluminium. It'll get a rub later... I also dry-brushed some on to the wheels. Parked Spitfires often have droopy elevators, so I scored the parts with a scalpel and bent them a bit... Finally, and my tea's nearly ready, I put the decal on the instrument panel, I know it's not quite straight but no-one will be able to see it once I've painted the canopy (although I have straightened it as I do have some pride in my work), and cut off the gunsight which I'll replace with a bit of clear plastic. That's all for now, thanks for looking.
Beard
Last post tonight. Airfix helpfully provide location pins on the bottom wing. Trouble is, that their presence means that the top and bottom wing parts don't fit properly. Of course, it's been a while since I made an Airfix MkI so I forgot. Anyway, some glue and some clamps and we have this... I'll let it dry and, hopefully, can start to paint it tomorrow. Thanks for looking, all comments welcome.

The XIV looks okay, which is why it's always at the back of shot, I've had to sand the fuselage decals off as they went 'wrong'. 5 hours ago, Jaffajake said: Looking forward to checking in later for paint updates! CedB
Nice elevators. Can't wait to see the gear when you've rubbed it - what's the Metalcote like? That final shot's full of Spitfires - just as it should be - and nice to see the pilot looking on, even though he's stood down... and sitting down. What a language! Quick progress Simon, looking good
Beard
Thanks Ced. Metal Cote... it's smelly, ruins brushes but it's all I've got, apart from Tamiya acylic Alumimium, until I can get to Ramsgate model shop to buy some Mr Whatever-it's-called buffing metalic paint. Having said that, it does work quite well. Edited March 14, 2017 by Beard to correct spelling.

Beard
No painting until I've taken my work trousers off and put my model-making trousers on. Not to be confused with my fighting trousers... A further interlude... photographs of other kits I'm making: Academy Tempest V... Sword Spitfire XIV... Airfix Boulton Paul Defiant... Frog Percival Proctor IV (featuring a scratch-built propeller)... Finally, don't tell my wife but there's a Spitfire on the fireplace...
