Max Headroom
I'm coming to that part of the build I like most, namely applying the stickies. As I had run out of Humbrol's gloss rattlecan varnish I fished out my 'reserve' which is Tamiya's satin varnish. The kit by the way is the rather nice Airfix 1/72 109E hand painted with the brush and potlets of paint. This is the result.... ......and close up....... It did this before and I laboriously rubbed it back to a smooth finish with micromesh. Is is me? Help!! Trevor
Steve Noble
What paint did you use for the colours, Humbrol? If so the Tamiya rattle can is lacquer paint and not usually compatible over Humbrol, enamels or acrylic..
Max Headroom
Hi thanks for the reply and yes it was the pots that came with the kit. I'll put the Tamiya can away It's since been micomeshed back and the airframe brush gloss varnished with Humbrol's own stuff. Off to Chester Model Centre today to restock on Humbrol rattle cans. The lesson I've learned is that micromesh is good stuff and as a hairy stick user, I now consider it a vital part of the overall process in smoothing out brush strokes and getting an even finish. It also has the side effect that if used carefully it can give a pleasing distressed look to a paint finish. Trevor
