60s NATO Vs Warsaw Pact in Europe GB Chat

Recommended Posts

After the success of the 80s NATO Vs Warsaw Pact in Europe GB and the fun we're currently having in the 70s edition now seems a good time to raise the possibility of following up with the 60s edition. So, who's up for it?

Fun fact...

Due to a change in France's nuclear weapon policies in 1960, French airbases saw the withdrawal of USAFE aircraft capable of delivering nuclear weapons.  Most of the aircraft were dispersed to airbases in the UK & Germany.  3 squadrons of F-100Ds (492d, 493d, 494th TFS) that were stationed at Chaumont-Semoutiers AB in France transferred to RAF Lakenheath. There would be a further withdrawal of USAFE aircraft (primarily recon birds) in 1966 following the withdrawal of France as an active participant in NATO command.

Definitely up for this - provided it's in the study gap over the summer!

No time for modelling right now, assignments to do and an exam in June, busy, busy, busy!!!

Some USAFE birds in Europe in the 1960s:

- F-4C/D/E Phantom II

- F-86D Sabre Dog

- F-100D Super Sabre

- F-102 Delta Dagger

- F-104A Starfighter

- F-105 Thud

- RB/EB-66 Destroyer

- RF-101C Voodoo

- RF-4C Phantom II

The list is by no means all inclusive (no heavies obviously), just most of the main players in the fighter/attack/recon roles.

Already selected as my build for this one, I think I even have the decals somewhere.

Nice!

I was leaning towards a F-100.....but I just discovered yesterday my Eduard A-4 kit has the correct decals for VA-72 on the 1964 Med cruise.

And I keep looking at the EB/RB-66.....because one of those would just be cool.  Or an RF-101...  Or...  Or...

Once we've done the 50s version the following year can we start back at the 80s again please 😀

I rephrase my suggestion:

2017 the -70's

2018 the -60's

2019 the -50's

2020 the -90´s

2021 2000-2009 (the -00´s ???)

2022 the -10´s

That´ll give the industry more time to produce stuff for the latest era, and helios the multivalve won´t have to wait that long for the -90´s

Poor Enzo... the moment he finds out we´ve scheduled a group build for the next five years
