rossm
I bought the Aztec Sky Guardians sheet without much research and found the first aircraft from it that I want to build is an F-7, not a MiG-21. I've found this thread http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234984813-chengdu-j-7-egyptian-air-force/#comment-2036387 and this one http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234949739-namibian-air-force-chengdu-f-7/ and the plans in the latter post and this page on the variants http://dictionnaire.sensagent.leparisien.fr/Shenyang F-7/en-en/. There is also a walkaround on BM. BUT I'm wondering, starting from the Revell MiG-21F-13 1/72 kit what do I need to do? I have listed my thoughts but have I missed anything...... 1 - new canopy - can I get away with a bit of scribing, smoothing, polishing and painting of the kit one? 2 - Braking parachute fairing 3 - cannon fairing - the front of the fairing is longer / different but I'm unclear how and the BM walkaround is for an earlier variant. 4 - a blade aerial was added to the fuselage underside beneath the cockpit at some point, as was a chaff dispenser (?) on the port lower rear fuselage. - they don't show in the early photo I have seen but are in the ones on airliners.net. 5. Seat - what type? 6. 4 underwing pylons Anything else? At least the colour scheme is simple, overall pale grey with a polished metal tailpipe. AaCee26
Hi Ross, At least points 1 and 5. The cockpit canopy was taller because Chinese ejection seat was taller than the original Soviet one. Cheers, AaCee

Cheers, AaCee Thank you for clarifying - the plans don't seem to show it but I had a suspicion it was more humped in the photos. I might have to decide the difference in 1/72 is negligible as making my own canopy is waaaaaaaaaaaay out of my comfort zone.
Ryan Hothersall
Very annoying Trumpeter have made quite a few of the J-7/F-7 variants, but in 1:48 scale.

And Omega (resin) have done the crank winged variants in 1/72, 28 euro doesn't seem too bad, even at post Brexit exchange rates, until you have to add 10 euro for UK postage. I have asked them if they will sell me just a canopy for this project.

Just give the old canopy its new shape with filler or else, then vac-form the new one.
