Peter Marshall Posted March 2, 2017 Share Posted March 2, 2017 I actually started this a couple of months ago, but I hit a problem - my particular kit had been given 2 starboard cockpit sidewalls, and no port sidewall. So I send an email so special hobby, who sent me a replacement. Actually they sent me a full set of replacement resin parts, many thanks @petr@SpecialHobby. Unsurprisingly starts with the cockpit Wired the instruments Starboard Sidewall The lesser spotted Port sidewall Assembled the fuselage with the rear cockpit bulkhead Assembled the turret basket Constructed the turret fairing, filled and sanded back Filled and sanded the fuselage - it will need some rescribing later Finally dipped the clear parts - test fit seems reasonable, will need some filling at the bottom, but we'll see Peter 4 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Classic Airframes kits seem to have a bit of a reputation for being difficult to build, but I love the choice of subjects. I have a Blenheim in the stash so will follow your progress with interest. Peter Marshall Posted March 3, 2017 Author Share Posted March 3, 2017 Today's work - first joined the clear halves with 5 min epoxy Added the cockpit floor So the assembled canopy But it needs some filling at the bottom ( or I could have been the top but it's easier to sort out on the bottom) Masked off the windows Added some plasticard on the inside, then filled the bottom Then on with a coat of Grey-Green Peter 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Peter Marshall Posted March 4, 2017 Author Share Posted March 4, 2017 Today's work, first painted and assembled the cockpit Then glued the canopy in place with epoxy again And added the gunner's compartment Out with the P38 - the canopy has the same issues as the original version I built, doesn't really fit at the bottom or the port side, and the turret needs blending in as well Then finally sanded back - lots of sanding :-) Peter 6 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The clear front fuselage looks scary to deal with but I guess most of the inside is covered up with the resin sidewalls. Looking forward to more, particularly the engines and cowlings. Needed a lot of Mr Surfacer 500 at the wing roots for the gaps. Will need some more work later as well. Needed to add some engine mounts to the front of the nacelles to get them to fit Then added the navigation lights and landing lights - first cut out the lights, then glue some clear sprue in place (having drilled and put some colour in place) then sand it back and polish Peter 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
