sapperastro
Hello all, Sorry for all the questions lately. Going to put in a colourcoats order soon, and thought I would tag the colours for my airfix zero on to the order (provided creative has the colours in stock....). The Humbrol callouts are; 75 Bronze green upper. 90 Beige green underside. Mix of coal black and midnight blue for cowling. And just for the hell of it I will check here to see if my Curtiss Hawk AVG would require the new US Sky equivalent that has just gone on the market? The Humbrol call out for the underside is 28 Camo grey.

Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies
We're going to be releasing a revised ACJ16 very soon, but obviously that's not the one that Creative have. The current version isn't too bad but it's a little too dark and too saturated (bright). Stew Dapple build the Airfix A6M2 with it and it looks fine, but to be strictly accurate the current ACJ16 could do with a dash of white or light grey mixed in. Nothing too drastic. Graham Boak
Yes the AVG aircraft, being ex-British contract, would have been painted in Dupont Sky Type S Grey (Colourcoats US Sky Equivalent). Presumably also the P-400s and other aircraft in US service originally built to UK contracts and diverted. Unless of course they were painted with Fuller rather than Dupont (eg B-17s - their undersides are yet another controversial subject). Or one of some other US Paint manufacturer's products - as Grumman appear to have found. It is a photo of a P-39, slightly overexposed to my eye, that help power the belief that these aircraft were painted in light grey: confusion with the FAA's Sky Grey didn't help, but this does not seem to have appeared on any US exports.
