Very nice detail on those landing gears and doors!!!

Well done Giorgio!!!:clap2:

Cheers Massimo, thanks

Quick update: I eventually had the chance to try my brand new Paasche Talon airbrush:

to desaturate the decals; I mixed some of the base color (Lifecolor Giallo Mimetico) with Vallejo glaze medium (50/50, I'd say), and sprayed at low pressure on the decals.

The effect is much more visible in real life, anyway you should notice that most of the shine was kicked back (note the black cat tail, for instance)

I also sprayed a final Future coat on, and I'm now ready for washes and weathering :yahoo:

Any comments welcome

Hi everybody, time for an update, don't you think?  :D

I haven't been lazy during these festivities, so here a bunch of pics to show the build progress.

Pin washes for the panel lines: I used a black tempera wash for all the movable surfaces and for the engine cowl  - if you remember for the C202 build, there's a 17mm gap in real life between the front cowl (top and bottom) and the back part of the fuselage. All the other lines were accentuated using a tempera wash matching the base coat, only darker. So for the bottom side I used a dark grey, while for the top one I used a mix of burnt Siena and black:

The excess tempera was removed with moist cotton buds or towels, pulling towards the airflow. The idea for these different washes was to give a proper scale effect to the panel lines, so that they are not too much in your face but still contribute to avoid a toy-like look.

The oil radiator grids were brush painted using Italeri Flat Steel, and a black tempera wash added here too

IMG_20171227_112817

Then I airbrushed a flat coat, using Italeri Flat Clear thinned with Windex

Then with my new airbrush I sprayed the exhausts staining:

IMG_20171228_224843

IMG_20171228_224857

This is a mix of Tamiya Flat Black, Flat Brown and German grey, heavily thinned with IPA and sprayed at a very low pressure, 0.2 bar.

Time to remove the last masking bits:

Touch ups needed here and there, which I did but will show them in next update :)

Hey look, there still is a cockpit in there! :analintruder:

IMG_20171228_230524

IMG_20171228_230559

I also completed the exhausts painting, using the sponge techinique for the rusty parts

IMG_20171229_225742

Rust is a  mix of Lifecolor Matt Red and Italeri Flat Brown, followed by the same mix with some Lifecolor Sand Yellow and Tan added.

Then a coupleof dry brush rounds, one with Lifecolor Light grey and the final, only on a few edges, with Matt White. Then Future coat, black tempera wash and Italeri Flat Clear, to get these

IMG_20171229_232514

and glued in place

IMG_20171229_233709

IMG_20171229_233720

Bulkhead/shoulder armour also glued in place

IMG_20171229_233656

Work on the main airframe is pretty much over, I just needed to get all the remaining bits ready for priming/painting. So I completed the main wheel struts: some plastic shims needed to get a proper fit with the bay doors

IMG_20171225_181040

Brake lines added too, made from brass pipe, soldering wire and copper wire

IMG_20171227_112831

IMG_20171227_112858

and glued with the respective doors

IMG_20171227_113039

You might have noticed that I broke off one of the actuator mounting pins, so I had to replace it with a brass pipe segment (left in next pic)

IMG_20171229_224548

I also replaced the pitot tube with a scratch built one, using a prescription needle and a steel rod

IMG_20171228_213348

Just like I did on the C202, I also replaced the fuel tank vent supplied by the kit with a scratch built one, using again a brass pipe (0.5mm) bent to shape and cut to size

IMG_20171228_213506

That's it for the day. Comments welcome, and Happy New Year everybody!

Its easy for fulsome praise to look/sound overdone but I don't care

This is a wonderful model, well both of them are but for some reason this is the one I feel more 'engaged' with

Its lovely work, and the washes work so well

Lovely work Giemme, she is looking so close to the finishing line now.

Those washes are really subtle but there.

Looking forward to seeing her done,

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Simon and Lady R.

Thanks Simon and Rose

Trying to complete this in time to still consider it a 2017 build :)

What an update!!!

the washes aren't too heavy and are working fine on this difficult camouflage.

The cockpit is just great and those legs.....just need some paint!!!

Bravissimo!!!

Massimo

Grazie Massimo! I'm pretty happy with the washes myself.

The legs have already received a primer coat since this update, painting to start soon ...

I like this one better too, Bill; probably because of the camo painting (not perfect, but I'm very happy with my first smoke rings attempt) and the resin ailerons.

Anyway, your fulsome praise is fully appreciated :thumbsup:

Beautifully done as usual!

I love those panel lines, nice and subtle, and they don't make the aircraft look like a crossword puzzle!

Happy New Year!

For some reason I’m not getting this through on my updates. So to cut a long story short, I’ve spent what ever spare time I have had since 9:30am reading and catching up. WoW! What can I say? You’ve done/ are doing it again. B) truly beautiful work. Your attention to detail is faultless. The paintwork and smoke rings are sublime and the subtle weathering is wonderful. Thank you for making the last sober moments of 2017 something special.

Happy new year G. I promise I’ll take the “Plunge” in the new year if it kills me.

Well if you just leave them lying around what else can we do?

:)

I hope we used them as you would have though

Now "Art" sounds a bit exaggerated for my models - you really are too kind, Tony
