RAF Dishforth 1948/9

Recommended Posts

I would like to share with you some of my late fathers photos. He was an aircraft finisher in the RAF from 1946 to 1954 and I think these may be of interest to aviation nuts like myself. This will take a while but should have something of interest for most.

I remember seeing Haystacks at Dishforth when my parents took me back to the Lakes on holiday. One reason I jumped on the resin kit last year. One of those enduring memories, parked right up against the A1.

Ahhh  Dishforth!  My first flight ever in a DH Rapide at the airshow in 1957. First air cadet flight in a Chipmunk there in 1964 with Harrogate GS CCF.

Earlier memories of Beverleys trundling over Harrogate from the OCU at Dishforth.

Nice memories there Britman, thanks for sharing.

More brilliant pics,.....the Hastings is a corker! Driven past Dishforth so many times on my way to and from Catterick!

Cheers

This one caught my eye - appears to be a camouflaged Dakota in post war markings

RAF Dishforth... sounds like the location for a Goons skit.

Apparently not, however. Nice collection!

Yes, lovely pictures. Thanks for sharing them.

There's no flying from Dishforth nowadays,

(That I know about) and some Army chaps are still there.

The place is looking a bit tatty around the edges though.

There is a small brewery around the back where we go

to pick up the odd barrel or two occasionally.

(One of their beers is called Comfortably Numb!)
