Agree with craig the resin parts will need minimal fettling, i like your stand is it a camera mount

Not a camera mount. It's a jewellers vice. Here's an example from from eBay

@Wee Beastie: Nice build. Looking forward to seeing this progress. Umm... that clamp you're using to support it. You're perchance a watchmaker, are you?

I did work a higher end high street jewellers a few yews ago, as a watch specialist. So a the jewellers vice is a very handy tool. Worth the small investment. :)

Not much visible progress in this update.
Lots of little bits being assembled, external fuel tank, missiles, rocket pods, bombs, pylons, and bomb racks (huge amount of pieces to those racks!). There will be lots of bombs to go on those racks. Also the wheels and front undercarriage leg.
The tail fin is now in place, and gone round the fuselage, and filled and sanded some of the gaps. Not that were that many, bottom the general fit is pretty good.
Just started work on the main undercarriage assembly. Boy, are they a complicated affair!

A small disaster has occurred (and hopefully sorted in due course)! My canopy has disappeared! I have absolutely no idea what I've done with it, but it's gone, it has ceased to be, it has gone meet it maker!!
Anyway, enough on that.

One small issue I've found is that the locating holes, under the wings, don't allow the pylons to point forward with wings open. As this is how I intend to display the build, I've drilled new holes, and filled the now redundant ones. Photos 1 & 2 show the before and after of this exercise.

Photos 3 & 4 show the complicated main undercarriage assembly. Lots of bits, but a work of art! ;)

Photo 5, there has been some primer used me thinks.

Last photo, and some of the antenna and probes are being put on. So now I've got to be extra careful not to go knocking them off!

Coming along nicely.

If the canopy doesn't turn up, you can get a lot of replacement parts through their parts service @ AliExpress.  https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1970125?spm=2114.12010108.0.47.3hvysP

I had to utilize this when the tail cone & recce pod for my RA-5 went missing.  Worked out pretty well.  Prices were reasonable for me...particularly when buying a full second kit wasn't in the cards.

Thank you, and thank you for the link.  Looks like I may have a replacement coming. A fellow modeller has got a spare MiG-23 canopy, so fingers crossed, I should be okay. :)

From primer to paint.
UMP black primer, followed by a bit of marbling.
Camouflage colours are Vallejo Brown/Green, Interior Green, and Grey/Green, which are the best matches for the colour call-out.

That's such a noooiiiceee work ya're doin' there, Ian! :clap:Doin' justice to yet another awesome correction set by Cold War Studio.

Me nay think the kit canopy would be of any use once graftin' 'em CWS set onto the Trumpy forward fuselage, or is it?

Cheers,

Unc2 <----- (feelin' a bit under 'em weather today). Yeh, me is.

Saw your photos on Flickr, very nice and I like the way you've build up the camo. More and more you see the black base-white-sport-method, must try it myself!

Keep it up!

Evert

Thank you Evert.

This is the second bold I've tried this method on.  First was the HAF recce Phantom.  On that I'd put on too much grey, so went much lighter on that this time.  I think it's worked better.

nice work!

did you use (and loose)  the Trumpeter canopy in the end?

Thank you, and yes I'm using the Trumpy canopy (I've got a replacement coming).  The CWS studio canopy I think would be difficult, as I feel the PE is quite thick, and all that PE on vac-form would look wrong.  Just my opinion.

Oooh look! I have a grey bottom!!

Looks good, your paintwork!

Far too few Czech cold war planes around! Apart from MiG-21s....

Thank you exdraken.  I always like to do something a little different, and unusual.

After a couple of coats of Alclad Aqua Gloss, it's decal time.
Had a issue with the kits decals. They're very brittle, which was very evident with Eagle head decals. They basically just broke up, whilst being applied. Luckily, the kit has 2 options for Czech markings, so I'm switching to the other option.
The basic numbering, and roundels are on (again brittle, but being smaller, and being applied to flatter surfaces, they gone on okay).
Also, the B-8M rocket pods have got their decals on.
That's the decals on the main fuselage finished.

Next, I'll be applying decals to the weapons pylons, and the No Step stencils to the wings.

good choice on the decals!

yeah, the Aerobonus stuff is very nice, sometime even the decals are!

I guess you are going to finish one of the first right looking BN Floggers worldwide! :)

Last of the decals done...for now. There are some more to do, but more on that soon.

Also started to airbrush the Aerobonus resin pilot.
Helmet painted with Vallejo Model Air Insignia White, jacket VMA Burnt Umber, and trousers Akan Dark Blue Grey. Once this is fully dried, I'll paint the face and other detailing.

Thank you Glynn.

I love the Aries stuff, just as detailed as Eduard Brassin, but not as over-engineered (not a critism, just an observation).

I think he's realised he forgot the Ben & Jerry's!
