The RFI of "Yellow nosed baskets, six o'clock high"

1/24 Messerschmitt bf 109-E by Airfix.

Hi There. It's been three months in the making but after a lot of blood, sweat and stuck together fingers we have an RFI of epic proportions.

It hasn't been a particularly sunny day today but I set up a little booth in the dining room and went a little bit snap happy.

The build Started with a slightly drunken purchase while on holiday in the new forest, and escalated to a hell of a build. scratch built parts for the pit engine, undercarriage and bays, a lovely donated instrument panel by "Yahu" and some camo masks sent by "top notch masks for models" Thanks guys:D. Thank you to Everyone who contributed and sent photo ref during the build, Too many to mention but you know who you are and again my greatest thanks. The build got it's name from @TonyTiger66 who mentioned this film.

And who could resist ? not me that's for sure. :giles:

During the build I found some info about the real yellow 9 here.

http://www.aviationmuseum.co.uk/109.htm

and @tango98 sent me amongst other really helpful words and pictures this report.

"Report No. 3/162

Me 109 Crashed on 15.11.40 at 11.30 hours at Horndon-on-the-Hill, Essex Map Reference: M.1002. Markings: not known. The cause of the crash is presumed to be fighter action. Pilot baled out. Aircraft dived into ground at speed and is almost completely buried. Evidence of M.G.17’s in wings and armament therefore presumably 4 M.G.17’s. Bomb rack for one 250kg bomb traced. Pilot prisoner. No further details possible."

This turned out to be the point where I had to build a bomb rack and 250kg bomb for our lovely lady.

After much effort we are here today with a final model.   I'll stop rattling on and get on with the good bit.  :yahoo:

May I present the "Airfix 1/24 Messerschmitt BF109-E" with extra stuff.

And that's all folks.:yahoo:

She was airbrushed with Tamiya acrilycs and weatherd with a hairy stick and various weathering pigments and pencils. I think she turned out quite well.

I hope you enjoyed the WIP as much as I did. if you didn't see it you can find it here

Thanks again for all your help and interest and I hope you'll

join me in me in my next build that can be found here.

Take care and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Take care and most of all......

Happy Modelling:pilot:

Johnny boy.

Superb, one of the best in this scale I've ever seen. A manic and entertaining build thread too. Excellent modelling and banter. Too many individual examples to mention. Look forward to the next build, and then 1/24 Spit and Hurri for company :)

Turned out alright didn't it!

What about a pic with something in it like a tamiya paint jar so we can fully appreciate the size?

Also what about exhaust stains? Even the well kept early ones did show a tiny bit?

Nonetheless doesn't detract from it I think...

Thanks.  I'm happy with her but I'm already looking forward to the next big un.  talking about Tamiya pots. I thought I had then noticed I had missed off a whole bunch of underside pictures. So I have now added them.

As for exhaust stains. Good point, I forgot:huh: to be fair there was a lot going on.

I might add some pigments but I'm glad she's in the cupboard.

John -

I've been following your build log and was impressed with your work on this one.  These old 24th scale Airfix kits are not the easiest to get together.   Your build has proved that with of effort and determination, they can be built into an impressive looking model.

Brilliant looking 109E and the best I have seen so far.

Regards

Dave

Christ it's huge!!

Cant fully appreciate it in the WIP because alot of the pics were close in and this is the first time i've seen it all together...

Ref zorst stains - Good call on adding some pigments. Should be fairly easy that 👍🏿

Spiffingly Splendid Spadgent.

Beautiful job on that. I did this scheme in 1/72 for a GB on Airfix Tribute Forum a wee while ago, used the decals from the old kit on the new kit, I was happy with it but of course nothing like as nice as this one & I didn't have a bomb rack. :(;)

Absolutely superb.

Just brilliant

Only thing that made me nervous was seeing that big beautiful bird upside down and balancing on a number of stacked up Tamiya paint pots!!

It has all been said already. I think the consensus is "not too shabby"!

Make sure the tires are not over-inflated on your 109.

Oh, alright, I'll say it: "Flaming gorgeous!!!"

Congrats
