Andre B
Hello, Has someone ever tried to use the best part from the old Airfix and Revell kits of Scharnhorst and Gneisenau to buld an more correct 1/600 ship with clipperbow? And maybe with parts from Airfix Prinz eugen as well... ; ) Cheers / André
steveinnscotia
Interesting question, the Revell 1/570 Scharnhorst made up into an attractive looking model as I recall some 40 years ago now, but was sparse on the detail. By comparison the Airfix Prinz Eugen from the early '70's was a very well detailed model, & for the time was significantly, in a class of its own from other similar 1/600 Airfix releases, apart from the Belfast. The prospect was adding the detail from the Prinz Eugen to the Revell Scharnhorst, shouldn't be too much of a challenge. It's certainly worth a try. A pity this is a neglected scale, the ships were a practical size & the potential would have been really promising IF, the Japanese kit manufacturers hadn't produced so many beautifully moulded, but finicky detail on their 1/700 ranges ! Just my opinion !
