mike ingham Posted February 15, 2017 Share Posted February 15, 2017 A past issue of SAM (Mike Keep drawings) included 615 Sqn Meteor F8 WK810/E in Dark Green/Dark Earth camouflage. Model Art sheet no. 72/020 also featured this aircraft in the same scheme. Does anyone have documentary/photographic proof to confirm this? camper1 Posted February 15, 2017 Share Posted February 15, 2017 The colours are Dark Green/Dark Grey over HSS This aircraft was the CO's machine and had a dark blue stipe thinly edged with white on the fin from the undersides of the tailplanes to the curve where the fuselage starts. The wingtips were painted dark blue with a white stripe bisecting the blue on the centre line The aircraft also had a Squadron Leaders pennant under the windscreen. The individual code letter E was in white and was applied to the fin on top of a blue oblong. Gun ports were black. The port engine nacelle carries the the white rectangle with blue zig zags sandwiched between two pairs of Squadron Leaders Pennants,it is possible the starboard one carried these as well. There is also an image in the old Profile #12. Neither the mentioned pictures above are much cop but the do tend to confirm Ian's references to the para in 'Cold War Warriors'. I have the Modelart decals you mention tucked away somewhere but as I remember, they are pretty good on colur and markings detail. It would appear that the dark green/dark earth 615 Sqn example is an urban myth. A point to consider - what info. did the late Mike Keep use to create his SAM line drawings?
