Guess what ?? 1/48 Spit bashing Eduard Otaki and Co

Recommended Posts

Hello Dears,

In a previous thread, one can see that there is an Eduard Spitfire Mk VIII that is on the painting bench.

As every time, Idid'nt finish a kit yet and I Wonder about the next one, time for me to start my Spitfire PR XI.

WP_20170214_20_17_56_Pro

So this one will represent the Spitfire Mk VIII of Clive "Killer" Caldwell and will be in a RFI in a few weeks.

But as I told it before, I've got this one too

WP_20170214_20_10_16_Pro

The fuselage is quite good, engraved and dimensions are almost right, see,

WP_20170214_22_10_39_Pro

Nearby 2 mm to add on the very end of the nose, here,

WP_20170214_22_10_47_Pro

I Wonder if I will cut and modify the Otaki wing or using an Eduard one, whatever I choose, I must modify the wing...<_<^_^

WP_20170214_20_11_33_Pro

Here are some resin parts, made years ago from various donors, including a Tamiya Mk V

WP_20170214_20_11_02_ProWP_20170214_22_03_51_Pro

I cleaned the original Otaki interior and began the surgery:

WP_20170214_23_44_37_Pro

And now, let's verify the Murphy's law:swear:

Will St Eduard give us a good PR XI ?? Now that I've started my conversion ???

I've worked on some other projects this evening, will have 2 RFI in a few days, Sailors Aircrafts obviouslyB)

Thank for watching.

Sincerely.

Let's try, at least, there will be lots of Eduard parts in the project ^_^.

I'm waiting also for the early Fw 190A, I mean A1, A2 and A3.

I asked them but the answer was at best evasive.

Now, we will perhaps be surprised by the old lady in red, C'mon Airfix, a Mk IX AND a PR XI, double bang !! That will be Gooooood !!

Sincerely.

You'll have to finish it before Airfix announce one, happens every time.

John

That's the nature of the game, let's see, Airfix or Eduard ?:idea:

Who will cough at first ??

Whatever, I can do a 2nd PR XI, which is for me the most beautifull Spitfire.

I will finally change my alias;)

Sincerely.

Hello Dears,

Surgery as usual, will be another Frankenspit Mk XI...

Have a nice day.

Looking through my Spitfire stash yesterday I found a Hasegawa Spitfire IX with a Loon Models MK VIII fuselage and various Quickboost PR parts, just waiting to be finished as a PR XI. All I have to do now is make it!

Hello Dears,

Ok , choice made, I was on my way to add a handmade resin plug for having a good gullwing on the Otaki undersides.

but, resin for the gullwing plus resin for the camera, will be hard to cope with, I think about using a complete overtree Eduard wing...

And that will mean erasing lots of that beautifull detailing, and I need that win for another Frankenspit that's lurkin' in my tortuous mind:evil_laugh:

So here's the go, Otaki wing are easy to modify without any remorse.

WP_20170412_23_08_21_Pro

That will be fun, look Mr Eduard and Mr Airfix. Even if or when you issue a fine PR XI. Mine will be done. :tease:

May be that kind of sentence will be incentive too.... Let's try ..:emo:

More to come soon.

Have a nice modeling day.

Sincerely.

Hello dears,

I had my surgery on friday and I must say that the doc has not missed the point....

Scrubbing the jawbone is painfull, even with massive painkillers.

They tear out 12 roots and parts of teeth, not the best for modelling but at least my mind is diverted from pain.

So enough about me, let me introduce you to the Spit that fear the RFI

WP_20170506_23_21_07_Pro

Everything was going smooth with that one 'till I tried Something for the exhaust.

And since that day, I get problems, broken parts and so on.

She is almost finished but I Wonder about the red tapes on the gun opening.

Did'nt see it on any Aussie Spit, may be they use the same white tape as the americans  ??

If anyone has an idea or evidence, I'll be eager to know.

Sincerely.

Ouch, that sounds painful! I'm going t the dentist on Tuesday for the preparatory work for the fitting of a crown, I'm really looking forward to it now.

I don't remember seeing any Aussie Spitfires with red patches over the white either.

Hope you're jaw is feeling better.

Thank you John,

At the age 21, I receive 9 new metallic teeth, since mine has been broken, adventure is adventure !

The doc has said that the dental bridge would last for a good 15 years. It has lasted 33 years !! :clap2:

It was a good doctor, alas he passed away 10 years ago. :undecided:

As nobody is working the way he was working...

Back to basics.. Will have 2 grills, will buy a bucket to immerge them right beside my bed:rofl:

Do you think that cellulosic thinner will do the job ??

Sincerely.

Corsaircorp

Next building will have Sharkteeth, a way to compensate !!:whip:

Uggh, 12 roots to remove?

I'm in no way envious about that!

No titanium to replace it, or was there nothing left of the jawbone to do so?

As for the red tape, I think there was some in my Aussie Eight box, so atleast Eduard seems to think they we're used down there.

Nice Caldwell-Spit by the way!

Hello Christer,

the jawbone cannot sustain any other prothesis. 15 years of Tobacco has took his toll !

I stopped smoking on the 21st of december, too late alas !

So I just can accept the fact and keep carry on.

thank for the red tape, I look in my photos and on the net, but it is barely visible, so I hesitate, opening the gun port or red tape ??:hmmm:

It is a double shot, Clive Robertson Caldwell

Co Rsair Corp a tiny bit for the ego

She is on her legs today.

Have a very nice day and take care.

I was wrong ( as usual ) about the red tape patches. I've just found my " Aussie Eight " book and it does show them on that aircraft, both on the artist's painting on the cover and an actual photograph.

Thank you John,

So I'll put the red patches on, easier than boring for the gun ports.

Thank again.

Hello Dears,

RFI delayed because of a reaction from the varnish,

See...

WP_20170604_00_13_57_Pro

And I see on the photo that the walkway is too far on the white band

Why did you make it once, there are no reasons

WP_20170604_00_14_06_Pro

No comment... Will rectify it :whip:

More funny, here's my P2V-7

See you later,

It's really annoying when something like that happens when you're so close to the finish. Where they the kit decals?

John

Hello John,

Sorry I run out of likes,  I spend a lot when I discovered the Tony Oliver epic saga of Tomcats

No, it was an old Superscale sheet, 48-546 to be precise.

Bought it back in the '80s. Stocked in dry place and all that is recommended but but s... Happens !

And I was about to use the Eduard's roundels when decaling the model :bangin:

I'll wait until it has thoroughly dried and see what I can do to fix it. Paint or replacement and varnish again.

Thank for looking and for the kind words !

Sincerely.
