If this was when C-130s were a man's aircraft, what are they now?

Well, Sean, in my view they nowadays sound pretty feeble by comparison.  I thought I'd amended the title of this thread to relate to the sound of old Herks but clearly that didn't get saved! Of course, the early A-models with the 3-blade props had a unique sound too!

PS- just humour me... I grew up with the rattle of P&W and Wright radials, T56s, and others...... To me you can't beat a T56 Herk, an AN-12 or 32 ;)

Beautiful pics! Loved the Roman-nosed Herk in the lineup- is that an A-model?  Herks forever!  Thanks for sharing these, Martin.

Of course, (old) Herks are not the only machines that sound great ......

Lovely Herk pics. I recall a 'Roman Nose ' one at the Herk meet at Greenham one year. And on another occasion a white topped one at the 'Hall . I think this one had a hump on top. When I get around to finding my pics I'l  post here somewhere sometime.

Another good collection.. The 130A was a surprise, wasn't expecting one of those. Brize took over from Lyneham for a time with different AN12s coming and going, that Indian, Iraqi and an Egyptian, not sure why but it was great to be able to look around (not inside). I wonder what they first thought when the first Herc arrived with what we now look on as normal Radome?  Great photos again, thanks !
