PlaStix
Hi John. Hope you and your are well over there in France. I'm hoping to get a bit more done this evening and will try and take some photos. Kind regards, Stix
Grey Beema
If you use fine brass tube to support the aircraft - you could run one fine insulated wire from the motors down inside the tube and solder the other to the tube (keep this bit in the airframe out of sight). Then put the switch and battery pack in the base. I'm considering a similar thing for a Typhoon project - put a motor it, figure out how to support an LED and rocket out in front of the aircraft, power the lot from a phone charger.. Well that's my initial thought...

Well that's my initial thought... Great ideas Grey Beema. I'll have to give it a go. Thank you. I like the sound of your Typhoon project. I did something similar a while back although I didn't use any electrickery! For the prop I used a PropBlur. You might be able to use the idea I had for supporting the rocket though: I used pipe-cleaners to represent the smoke trails. Perhaps you could get any wires running down something similar. Because I didn't need any power in this Typhoon it was supported on clear Perspex rod. More photos can be found here: 41 minutes ago, rob85 said: This all looks a little bit nice stick! I like the idea of the pipe cleaner but am not a fan of the prop blur propellers. So yes I was thinking of supporting the rocket on some stiff wire with an ultra bright LED at the back of the rocket and the wire and LED hidden by a thinned out cotton wool sleeve. Maybe a cross between those ideas with one rocket reaching out the other just leaving the rail.. Did you get your motors off evil bay?
PlaStix
Thank you. I know what you mean about the PropBlur but I quite like them in certain circumstances. The motors came from the big A - link. Kind regards, Stix

Yeah I've been trying to get it a bit further than the idea stage today. The first photo shows the two sets of engine sides. The top left and bottom right sides here are for the one I haven't done anything to yet. The top right and bottom left are the ones I removed the fixed prop shaft from and created the half hole for the copper tube I'm using to extend the motors' drive shaft to the prop. I have now also removed the parts that were there to hold the wheel bay doors open: Next, to start work on how I'm planning to brace/support the motors, I used some styrene to build out the sides from the inside flat surfaces of the areas the exhausts are fitted into on the outside: These were the holes I drilled earlier in the week to get the wires from the motor into the wing: Also earlier in the week I filed off the detail on the front of where the radiators were: Which is where the Eduard replacement part will go - these have now been dry-brushed with Revell's Aluminium: A lot of the time this morning was taken up with trying to paint the figures: The detail is a little soft on which made it harder to paint them. I also fitted blanking plates on the back of the radio equipment boxes: This afternoon I repeated the stages from the first engine on the second and added a piece on each that will provide some support for each motor: Then I figured that, as it's not far off being sealed in, I ought to get a few photos of the cockpit in place in each fuselage half: Then it was time to fix the crew in place and so I again took some photos to show what they look like before the fuselage is joined together: Finally today, having seen some of the trouble others in this GB have had fitting some of the underside parts, I decided I would fit the forward four gun machine gun section to one half and let it dry with the other fuselage half dry-fitted to keep it aligned. Before getting that far though I realised the machine gun barrels looked too blank: So out came the micro-drill: More tomorrow I hope. Comments and suggestions welcome. Grey Beema
Not sure how you are going to attach the motor to the propeller shaft but could I suggest something flexible, plastic tube, shrink wrap or something to allow for any minor alignment issues?
CedB
Great stuff Stix, those internals and the pilots look great, good job! I think you'll be OK on the underside parts - your shots show how the front bulkhead fits properly when it's angled backwards. The little lug where it fits to its locator 'shelf' is obviously designed to set the angle - I fitted it 'over the step', got the bulkhead more upright and it therefore pushed the floor down. interested to see how those 'engines' work out - your method looks sound so far and it's not as though this is your first time!
rob85
As ever some brilliant little details stix! Nice work. really love how you have made the details in the CP really pop, like your tanks. great work on the figures, I agree the detail is soft but you have done well to bring them out and up to scratch. Looking forward to the rest! Rob

Cheers John Hi John and thank you. I was thinking I might get as far as getting the motors working the props this weekend but I didn't feel 100% so opted not to do anything which might go quickly wrong!! Hi Grey Beema and thank you for your suggestions. My current plan is to use some copper tubing to extend the motors drive shaft to the prop but I'm attaching it to the prop via one of Tamiya's Polycaps. Just like you - I thought it might offer some flexibility to the set-up - these are the photos from the previous page: On 4/2/2017 at 8:51 AM, CedB said: Great stuff Stix, those internals and the pilots look great, good job! Hi Ozzy and yeah it was a good day for getting stuff done even if I didn't feel like doing anything too complicated! Your figures turned out beautifully - I could have done with these two being a little bigger or having sharper detail. The guns do look better with the ends drilled out even if it takes a bit of doing to get the hole as central as possible in such small parts. First job on Sunday morning was to glue in the lower machine gun section: I kept other fuselage half in place, but not glued, until it was set: It seems to line up okay so far. I also drilled out the holes where I will get the wires from the wings into the fuselage: I painted the backs of the under wing lights with Revell's Silver Metallic before fitting them in place: The Eduard PE radiator parts were glued with CA glue: Engine nacelle sides glued together: So it's now possible to see how the motor supports look: Next I glued the upper and lower wing sections together: As I'm getting closer to getting the fuselage sides glued together I thought I'd better figure out how I was going to attach the gun sight. The Tamiya IP comes with a cutout in the top left that the support for the gun sight glues into. The Eduard replacement IP doesn't have the same cutout. I ended up cutting the support arm a little shorter and then glued a small section of square styrene rod onto the back end. This was then glued under the section in front of the pilot: By Sunday afternoon these were the current parts in progress: Wheel bay doors glued in the closed position on the undersides of the engine nacelles. I don't think Tamiya intended this kit to be built wheels up as the doors do not fully fit the space. I managed to get a fairly even gap where the doors are supposed to meet which I will probably fill with some plasticard: Parts for the bombs glued together - still a bit of cleaning up required: Tail wheel parts glued together: Wing tips attached: A test fit of the motor showed it seems to hold in place very well: And the drive shaft looks central to the hole for the prop shaft to fit through: Comments and suggestions welcome. CedB
Nice work Stix. Glad to see you got the lower guns in with no problem and the wheel bay doors fitted nicely. I like your idea of keeping the smaller parts on the sprue during assembly, great tip.

It's because I brush paint that I try to keep parts on the sprues as long as possible - it gives me something to hold while painting the parts. I try and make sure, where possible, that the points where the sprues join the parts either won't be seen well once in place or can be touched up easily. 11 hours ago, TEMPESTMK5 said: Good morning Plastix so far Patrice Thank you very much Patrice. PlaStix
I actually did quite a lot of work on this project but you wouldn't think so from the photos below. First off I got the props and spinners painted and assembled: I have also got the bombs and machine guns painted and dry-brushed: Once dry I got the machine guns glued into the nose section: Then I decided it was time to take the plunge and actually try to get the first prop and spinner to work - first I got the copper tube, which I had previously drilled out to accept the drive shaft on the mini-motors, fitted into the spinner: The tube is actually glued to the Polycap - the latter is glued into the centre of the prop part where it is supposed to be. I then held the prop against the front end of the engine nacelle and used the copper tube to help get the location correct for the motor. On this first one I ended up using a slip of paper to get the motor held a little more tightly. Once I had tested the motor a few times I then used a bit of CA glue to keep everything positioned: Then I had to borrow Mrs P to hold the nacelle while I took a couple of photos with the motor running: ....and one without it running: I'm reasonably happy with that. Now just got to get the other one to work the same! Next I got the fuselage halves glued together: I thought at this stage I ought to get some photos of the crew taken before they disappear under the canopy - I had to use my phone's torch to get enough light into the interior: The tailplanes were fitted next: Followed by the gluing into place of the nose section: I used some square plastic strip to fill the gap between the undercarriage doors: I then got the engine nacelle with the motor already fitted glued to the underside of the wing: I did have a few gaps around the nacelle that need to be filled. ......and a photo of the wing and nacelle with the prop and spinner in place: The prop and spinner isn't glued yet as I want to paint the aircraft before they are glued as I don't want to have to mask the prop and risk getting paint, that I cannot remove, on the front of the nacelle. Finally I got the copper tube fitted inside the other prop and spinner - so here they are together: So quite a bit done but not a lot to show for it. First job next time I get chance is to get the motor fitted in the other nacelle. Comments and suggestions welcome. Ozzy
Nice going Stix, looking good the detail in the cockpit is fantastic. I do take my hat off to modellers in the gentleman's scale, Mrs Stix is to be commended for her grip during the test run. I'm hopefully going to have a go at this spinning prop shenanigans in the 109 STBG.
