Fuse joined:

Blocking was used to keep the gun tunnel in place and flush with the fuse :

Sprung clamps were monitored to ensure they didn't squeeze too much.

Double bubble was achieved for the entirety of the joins.

Gotha colours accumulate:

I wanted to stick with one brand of acylics and Vallejo has the colors I want and 2 shades darker and 2 shades lighter if need be.

I will be laying out 4 or 5 color night camo hex or lozenge hand painted masks on my computer for the upper surfaces of the model. I have hex mask sets already :

So the required shapes have already been laid out.

This is prolly gonna take a while.

Smithy , Ian , John;

Thanks.

I will be airbrushing. But my mix' are a blend of color and a few diff types of thinner.

There will be some thought put into the finish as there has to be flat and semi-gloss finish' to the lozenge shapes.

So most likely color shots will be finished with the appropriate clear.

Here is a shot of the pilots left console:

clive & Gary ; Thank you.

Contemplation of the upcoming 'free-hand painted , 5 color , night lozenge camouflage pattern '  ,  help me Jebus! , has my full attention.

The description belies that!

The only approach is to sit down with the computer and draw it out.  It will be airbrushed and with diff clear finish'.

The model will be in a diorama , here is a shot of some of the AM and figs:

Steve,

I just noticed your thread. Some excellent work on that cockpit.

WW1 is not really my subject yet I picked up a 1/48th Gotha at

a car boot sale the other week merely because i liked the box art!

I've had a look in the box and probably will never build the thing!

But I'm intrigued by the triangular hole behind the rear gun. Is it

really for the gunner to fire down & under the aircraft as I assume?

I also wonder what it did for the aerodynamics (such as they were).

Good luck with your paint scheme.

Cheers

Pete

Thanks Pete.

The Gotha is iconic, and along with the other German bombers of the time , almost directly responsible for the development of the anti aircraft preparedness that saved Great Britain during the Battle of Britain.

Pretty important aircraft I would say!

Which 1/48 kit have you found?

Yes the rear gunner 'shot through' the rear fuselage , and the gun could be mounted on a lower rail for an even better field of fire:

You can see the gun tunnel shape in the above pic and elsewhere on this thread.

As for the aerodynamics , at this point in aviation history , that was still being developed. The appalling loss rate of Gothas and other GIV aircraft to landing accidents , well over 40% for Gothas , points firmly to the location of aerodynamics on the aviation learning curve.

As far as the paint scheme goes , it is daunting but that's what makes for a great model. It pales in comparison to the poor guys who actually had to paint the bombers by hand.

Thanks for watching.

Thanks for that.

One I'd never seen before, an Aurora K & B Gotha G V in 1/48th scale.

Dated 1972 and a bit of a rare beast from what I can find on t'web.

I've done a parts check and a couple of the interplane struts are broken.

Also there should be a brown plastic base in there but it's missing.

Apparently, from what I can find out, K & B cleaned up the moulds and got

rid of some of the moulded on decal location marks, yet left others!

This kit is in a dark blue plastic.

As I say, not really my thing, so I'll put it up for sale when I get around to it.
