Beard
Some progress, the first coat of Extra Dark Sea Grey is on: Here's my workspace (until I can get around to buying something more suitable): I'm also doing a Sword Spitfire XIV: An Airfix fabric-wing Hurricane: a Freightdog Spitfire MkXI conversion: and this (there's a prize for the first person to correctly identify it):

CedB
Nice progress Simon, especially considering the temporary bench. Which kit are you using for the Proctor? I'd like to add it to my wish list but, by the look of scalemates, it's not a 'new tool'!
Procopius
Looks like the Frog kit.

Cookenbacher
The TSS is looking great Simon, and thanks for the glimpse of the production line.
Beard
A bit of progress and some out-of-focus photgraphs to prove it: I've also been gathering some kits together for a build I have planned for later in the year, just waiting for some Eduard Spitfires to arrive.
CedB
Looking good Simon - an interesting and unusual scheme eh? Do you know 'why the white patches'? Perhaps it's just to break up the grey? Nice collection there too.
Beard
Ced, the painting guide had the white stripes so I went with that. I usually do a minimal amount of research on my builds but I do know that SEAC aircraft had the stripes, I suppose BPF aircraft had them too. *heads of to do some research
Grey Beema
The white stripes are British Eastern Fleet rather than British Pacific Fleet markings. Mainly Indian Ocean Ops..
johnd
The white bands are theatre markings. The Japanese used the yellow leading edge, so that was out so someone thought of white stripes. John.
stevehnz
I believe they were a recognition marking in much the same way as Damn, beaten to the draw. They're looking good Simon, a pleasure to follow this thread. Steve. Edited February 18, 2017 by stevehnz
Beard
You all beat me to it. I should have read this http://www.fleetairarmarchive.net/squadrons/809.html, before posting. As 809 served in the Indian Ocean, supporting operations in Burma and Malaya, it would have had the SEAC id stripes. Here's a photo, albeit of a MkII: http://www.aviationphotocompany.com/p1061752406/h69D542FE
rob85
Regardless of why, it's a very cool scheme! Looking very good Simon, and you have a fair amount on the go there, all looking very nice! what is the build you have planned? Something similar to cookie 1/72 scale castle Bromwich dip... I'm planning on making all the aircraft in Xtradecals D-Day 70th Anniversary sheet. Whether it'll actually happen is another matter but there are 6 MkIX and 2 MkVIII overtrees on their way from Eduard, the MkVIIIs will be converted into MkVIIs.

Is it the one with the blue mustang?? I hope you manage even just a few builds from it! Rob
Beard
It is the one with the blue Mustang, there's also a pink Spitfire on it, and it is a great transfer sheet.
Cookenbacher
That is a really cool idea for a project Simon, I love that sheet too! Edited to say: Also, that's a lovely Seafire.

I've just realised that I've painted the stripes on the upper and lower wings different widths... oh well, I better get masking.

Beard
A little more progress today, no photographs though. I did visit the Battle of Britain memorial in Capel-le-Ferne today and saw this: and this: and this: (I did ask the wife is she'd consider having one in the garden.) and this: It always more than a little sobering to see your surname on on a memorial, especially so as I imagine he was young enough to be my son.
