Yak firebar

Recommended Posts

I'm attempting the bobcat models yak 28 p firebar, picked it up today, and first impressions are it looks really nice on the sprues, while ive spent most of my modelling day getting my harrier gr9 a bit closer to completion ive spent the last 45mins dryfitting ,I've not done a whole aircraft in alclad before and i understand from a bit of research that as good of an initial fit is essential to getting a good finish, that is the less damage to panel lines and minimal filler the better, second impressions are ,while not really a criticism the plastic seems a bit waxy, but this is a criticism the mating surfaces of the fuselage are ,to be kind not exactly tamiya, now to be honest i never expected tamiya build quality, but theres going to be a bit more sanding than i would have liked, and hopefully the filler i use, will be ok with waxy plastic, time will tell. Photos tomorrow,  cheers

Fuselage now quite a good fit done away with a couple of locating pin on the top of the fuselage near the tail got the tail together nice fit ,and mates withthe fuelage well ,things are looking up starting to get a bit more optimistic

Couple of photos its going together well, the norm will be a couple of three swipes with a sanding stick across the mating surfaces not the leading edges, and the fit is very good,so far, even the canopy looks to fit really  well, mrs hewy says i shouldn't take the tape off and just daub glue on it and job done,,😮,cheers

In every generation there is a chosen one.

Buffy isn't a bad gal.   That's Faith...

We now return you to the normally scheduled pointy Firebar goodness.  :)

Scratch that last post about the ejection seat I'm almost certain its the  k36vm ejection seat looks very similar in photos and i believe that soviet aircraft manufacturers were producing their own seats ,further research is needed

Not a bad gal at all, unless you are a vampire.

And I think they've even been eradicated from Atherstone now. ;)

Some are still throwing sticks at the moon around here

Interesting to read your thoughts and findings with this one. The kit has certainly caused a stir so I'm sure there will be plenty people watching your progress.

great, another Firebar to watch and learn from!

concerning the ejection seat - good question!

probably kk-2s, as found in late MiG-17s would be ok

http://www.neomega-resin.com/kk-2-272-p.asp

at this build I compared some of the available KK-2s

SM-2_Ejection_Seat_MiG-15_Mig-17_36862_z

note that the headrest side protection is folded "open" here!

hope this helps a bit!

As far as I've found out the k-7nm was fitted to some late production 28 p but i can't find any photographic reference of this seat, although a few sources mention the kk2 ,many thanks for your findings

Reads as if you lads are leading the way in researching a difficult subject. Best of luck solving this conundrum as I think there will be quite a few people asking the same questions as the kit lands on more workbenches soon.
