I have absolutely no idea what you mean! The breeze block is entirely down to you putting the idea in my head in the first place.

There has been quite a lot gong on with this build over the last day or so. I began by gluing the main undercarriage mountings in place in the nacelles and went on to button up the wings. Once cleaned up, the fit of the upper and lower engines was bad and needed a lot of filling and sanding. Re-scribing has begun on these areas. All this left the recesses for the exhausts greatly reduced in definition. This was overcome by adding 10 thou' strips of plastic to the edges. The tail planes have been re-scribed and cleaned up.

I decided to order a new canopy for the kit (that will ensure my Falcon set shows up!). This is designed for the Italerii kit so, to guard against the possibility of it not being able to made to fit, I decided to initiate plan B and start sorting out the kit parts. Cleaned up, these are not too bad a fit although some work will be necessary to restore some clarity to them.

Thanks for looking and enjoy the pictures.

Thanks Adrian, we will get a result one way or another.

I caught up with this thread over the last couple of days Martian.

I have this old kit, it used to lurk around my bench, close to a resin 'Mistel' set. I think one of my modelling personalities had ideas for these two to get together at some point, with my help, and make the pointy bit of a WWII composite. Then I found an Italeri 'Mistel' in the stash and became puzzled over what to do with the old '88'.

Your build here is giving me inspiration to do something with that lovely, nostalgic blue plastic :).

Much respect due in regard to the rescribing!

All this his talk of a breeze block, number 001 and clandestine micro-dot images of Nazi-era erotic girlie mags has me completely intrigued. It sounds like something from an episode of the X-Files!

Looking forward to the rest of this build. The Spanish option is a great choice!

All the best

Martin,

You're doing a great job on this old kit.  Really nice.

Given the attention you've lavished on it thus far, I was wondering whether you were thinking of doing something with the engine nacelles at all?  The worst thing shapewise about the kit to my eyes is the rounded square cross section around the wing leading edge and the too tapered profile.

If not, fair enough.  Just wondering...

Regards

Thanks Tony. If I were you, I would build the kit (hang on, I am doing that!) It will never be the most accurate Ju88 in town but for a bit of fun and nostalgia it fits the bill just fine.

As to the breeze block, the X files will not even come close to this one!

Cheers Martin. I shall be keeping this build as simple as possible. The aim is to enjoy the kit for what it is and have a relaxing build away from the four major projects I have on the go at the moment. If I ever do an accurate Ju88,it will be in either 1/48 or 1/32 scale.

Your doing a sterling job on it martian,i didnt think it could look that nice from when it was scatterd all over my old mums dinner table many many moons ago ,

Glynn

Thanks Glynn, part of the experiment is to see how good it can look without doing a total rebuild on the kit. However, thus far, I am having as much fun as when I built the kit first time round. Maybe more as I have more of an idea as to what I am doing this time.

Right, where was I before I got totally side-tracked by posting on everyone else's great builds? Ah, yes. The Falcon canopies arrived today and the news is that, with a lot of swearing and re-building of the kit's cockpit edges, the main canopy can be made to fit The nose and gondola transparencies are a different kettle of fish. There not a snowflake's chance in Hell of them getting even close to fitting. However, the kit nose glazing is probably the best of the kit clear parts and with a bit of polishing and a bath in Klear, I think we will get away with using it. I think the same goes for the gondola transparency as well.

The downside of all this is that with the much clearer canopy, I may not have added enough detail to the cockpit area and will have to see if more f the Eduard set can be persuaded to fit.

The kit engine fronts have had the cooling gills thinned and separated from each other with cuts from my razor saw and added to the nacelles. The tail planes have been fitted to the fuselage. The fit of these was rather good and required very little filling. The kit's control surfaces have been glued together and are curing prior to suffering a vicious assault from my files as they are moe akin to planks of wood than aircraft parts.

Work has also started on the long process of getting the main airframe sections polished prior to their being joined together.

Thanks for looking

Have a go, you clearly want to and these kits were made to be built after all.

Precisely! Get on with it! :poke:

In other news a start has been made on the elevators and rudder. These parts all need thinning down, re-scribing and fettling to fit. Due to the small nature of these parts and my large hands this is taking a while but I should have something to show either tonight or tomorrow morning. As they say, watch this space.
