Tim's Airfix Harrier GR1 - COMPLETED

Recommended Posts

I'm going to build this kit:

As the 1971 option.  No 20 Squadron,  1971 RAF Wildenrath.

I've recently completed this, same kit  grasshopper - so we'll see the changes in appearance that going operational brought.

Whilst we're waiting, here are some other first generation RAF Harriers that I've built.

Matchbox GR3 - No 4 Squadron RAF Gutersloh - visited these on ATC camp in 1978.

Previous Airfix GR3 as No 1 Squadron, RAF Wittering.

Same model the next day, prepared for Arctic operations in Norway.

Fujimi GR3 - but this one in Belize

Airfix 1/48 GR3,   1982 Falklands

This one was shot down.

One minor flaw with this kit -

it provides parts for aux-air intakes closed - for high speed flight,

it provides parts for aux-air intakes upper open, lower closed - for parked, non engine running,  as used on my previous build,

but it doesn't provide parts for aux-air intakes fully open, for ground running and hover.

So I trimmed the parts for that regime myself.
