Regards, Jason Cheers, it's starting to get there now. Resin parts in place and joints filled, not too much to sand down, luckily! The filler behind the main gear bays is in the airbrakes as the prototype airbrakes were very different. Got the vacform mould made and it works ok, from left to right the vacform mould, first moulding from white plastic and three clear blisters. The far right one isn't yellowed but is in the shadow of my lamp! Not sure yet whether to use the clear mouldings as they are a bit thin and might get squashed. I might use the white one and set the round window into it, it will glue onto the fuselage better as well. Steve. BritJet
Thanks James. I went with the white plastic moulding and set the clear window into it, definitely better than the thin clear moulding. The last thing I wanted was for the blister to get squashed after doing the Alclad Managed to get the filler rubbed down this evening and the joints look good so the next step is a squirt of primer. No doubt that will show up where some more work is needed but I don't think there'll be too much. I'll get some more photos tomorrow before it's primed. BritJet
Had a bit of an accident with the one wing cracking open down the resin joint whilst I was clearing the filler out of a couple of panel lines. It was one of those moments where you see hours of work about to disappear before your eyes! Luckily it glued back in place ok and only needed a touch more filler so with that sanded down it's ready for the first painting session. The photos show some work still to do, but I'm happy with that. Steve Edited July 8, 2017 by BritJet Replace PoxBucket links

Primer rubbed down and a few blemishes sorted out, just given it a couple of coats of gloss black ready for the Alclad. I'm going to leave this for a few days to harden off first and then I need to tackle the intake vanes, which will be fun..... I was lucky that it only caused a small amount of damage. I'm hoping to get the black polished and some Alclad on over the weekend. BritJet
I thought it would be better to fit the intake vanes before spraying the Alclad and risk damaging it with lots of handling. To get the shapes somewhere near right took several attempts and this is the last one, the vertical vanes aren't glued in so that I can later scan them. Once I'd got the shapes right I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut them in 0.3mm plastic card, it hasn't cut all the way through but that's a good thing as the vanes are small and would be easily lost. A scalpel blade along each cut line soon releases them and then the slots cleared out. I fitted the horizontal vane first and left it to harden off for a while. Then the tedious fitting of the vertical vanes, slight adjustments to fit on each one. At the moment they are only glued to the horizontal vane so I can adjust the angles if needed before a spot of glue top and bottom. Each one needs to be vertical from the front and angled back, from top to bottom, from the side to match the intake. Just need to do the same on the other side now..... BritJet
Not had very much time to work on this over the summer due to work but I sprayed some Alclad Polished Aluminium on and the reflections are impressive.... But..... The Alclad has attacked the gloss black base coat in quite a few places so I've rubbed them down and need to respray the black. I hadn't sprayed any Alclad on the left outer wing. Whilst this is annoying it's not too bad to fix and it's likely to give some variation in the tone of the Alclad which is good. Steve
71chally
Lovely work there, coming on very nicely. Can I ask though, why do you use gloss black as a primer / undercoat?
BritJet
Thanks. Some of the Alclad paints need a gloss black base coat to make them shiny, otherwise they just look like silver paint. You can get different tones in the Alclad by varying the base coat colours, I tried a dark blue and got a mirror-like finish. It was too shiny even for the Valiant! I've not had it attack the base coat before but it's not too serious. Steve
