Killingholme
Hi all, Having read the Combat Aircraft magazine "USAF 2017" Edition, I thought I'd spent an hour seeing whether you could build a whole airforce in one scale. I chose 1/144. We all have these sort of silly pipe dreams, but just imagine how cool this lot would look hanging from the study ceiling... Type Kit Available? Medium Notes a-10c Revell Y-New INJ-OOB Dragon also available b-1b Dragon N INJ-OOB Minicraft B-1A- wrong version but easier to find b-2a Revell Y-2nd INJ-OOB Hobbycraft- better but rarer b-52h Minicraft Y-New INJ-OOB 2016 boxing very expensive, but includes modernised parts c-5m Anigrand Y-New RES-OOB Otaki boxing V rare and expensive kc-10a extender (dc-10-30-cf) Revell Y-2nd INJ-CONV Any revell kit can be converted with effort Beechcraft mc-12w (king air 350) Fox One Y-availability? charlie_c67
Quick question, is it possible to split it up a little more? Probably the site, but things are a little mashed together so it's difficult to pick out which comments apply to which aircraft in places.Otherwise, impressive list! Also, you missed out the F-15C, which Dragon, Trumpeter and several others made, but seems difficult to find, and has aftermarket and AM decals as well. Killingholme
Yeah I just realised that the formatting is far from ideal. And it's cut off a couple of comments about kit availability and the nature of conversions where they are necessary. Will have a look at this again. Maybe I should have picked a smaller airforce... tempestfan
I do not know the Academy F-4E, but I think they used to have the Ex-Crown mould. If that's the case, I suggest the Arii ex LS which used to be superior.
Ben Brown
How about a 3-D-printed T-1A? I keep thinking about buying one, but I don't think I like Beechjets enough to spend 50 bucks on a 4-inch model of one. Ben
bootneck
That little database/spreadsheet is quite a good idea. With a little planning, something like that could be expanded into other specific areas and could incorporate any model type; such as RAF modern, Ship kits of the Kreigsmarine or even AFV's of the Soviet Union and suchlike. Such a spreadsheet could keep a record; i.e. kit A makes a Mk.1 but Kit B plus aftermarket Y is needed to make Mk.2 and so on. Thanks for the idea WiIl. charlie_c67
Modern RAF one will be incredibly short!
Richard E
Interesting project. Welsh Models may also come to your rescue as they produce models of the KC-135R and RC-135W (depending on level of detail you want to go to the USAF also operate the rarer RC-135S Cobra Ball; RC-135U SIGINT, WC-135 TC-135 and OC-135B Open Skies versions of the "white top" 135), KC-10A Extender and C-130 all-be-it not USAF versions (alternative decals are available from Draw Decal). Their RAF Post War series includes both long and short versions of the current C-130 in RAF markings and their Sentry AEW Mk.1 could be used possibly be used as the basis for E-3C and E-8C conversions. Possibly on the actual aircraft but identifying and listing kits would stretch it out, and then there are the aftermarket elements. Just piecing together the various contributions from members on BM has already got me up to double figures already. I'm still not fully fit to do any real modelling and so I am spending the time looking for and compiling this sort of data. It is quite an interesting little pastime at the moment. Killingholme
You know what's funny- with the wider selection of simple injection kits of modern USAF types, some of which are very common and hence cheap (B-52s, C-130s and KC-135s) - coupled with the currently very high price and scarcity of brand new 1/144 Minicraft kits in the UK... it wouldn't actually cost that much more to do this project in 1/72 scale... ...Well, unless you count 'swift and decisive divorce' as a cost...
